Hello all and thanks for having me. I am quite a novice with firearms, but I went shooting with a buddy last winter and really enjoyed it. Anyone have any recommendations on next steps in terms of class, etc. regarding firearm safety and basics?

Welcome from Frederick. Grew-up on the Magothy. Others can probably give you better advice than I can about the available options in your area.

What did you and your buddy shoot? What types of firearms are you most interested in? That'll probably give us a better idea about the types of training to recommend.

We shot clay pigeons with his shotgun at Pintail. Lots of fun. I am thinking about a shotgun or rifle for my first purchase, but I'd like to receive some safety training first.

Welcome from Ellicott City. Grew up in SP and family still lives there.

Regarding classes check our NRA website the will list class schedules for affiliated training organizations. There are three basic classes offered for Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun. Also you may want to look into joining a firearm club at wither Berwyn or maybe one of the Associated Gun Club members. It's going to be about an hour from SP, but I still think looking into. Many if those clubs welcome new members with no previous experience, and have regular training classes.

The best way to ease your way into something new is with experienced friends so keep that avenue open too.

    Be safe and have fun.

Welcome from Severna Park! This are a few companies in the area that offer training. Check out the Industry Partners section of the forum, I believe that some training companies can be found there.

I was born and raised in Maryland and lived there most of my life. Three years ago this weekend I escaped to Colorado. This forum is so active and such a great source of gun information that I've stayed a member.

I received my first firearms training in the Navy and my kids grew up with gun safety so I've never looked for lessons. There are some great trainers who are members here. Check out the Training section of the Industry Partners sub-forum and use any of them with confidence.

Welcome from another in Severna Park! Pintail is a lot of fun. Can get expensive depending on how much one shoots.
