A High Power Sporting Rifle Match will be held this Saturday, June 24th, at Sanner's Lake in Lexington Park, MD. You'll need a centerfire rifle having a magazine capacity of at least 4 rounds, and the rifle and sighting equipment must weigh no more than 9.5 pounds. Both metallic and optical sights are allowed. You can run your crusty old bolt gun or your fancy new AR, provided they make weight! At Sanners the course is shot entirely at 100 yards using the SR-1 target for a total of 32 shots plus sighting shots. You are in position and loaded when the “FIRE” command is given, and reloads are “off the clock”. No special equipment such as shooting jackets or heavily padded gloves are allowed. Sling, mat, and spotting scope are recommended but not required. This is an excellent introduction to high power rifle competition and is great fun whether you are new to the sport or an old hand. Registration starts at 0800 and the match starts at 0900. This is an NRA-approved match so bring your NRA membership number if you want your score to count towards classification. We generally run two relays, so if you are new to high power shooting you’re welcome to watch the first relay before shooting on the second. There will be plenty of experienced shooters around to provide coaching tips and/or equipment loans if you need them. Come give it a try!
