Thanks rob-cubed, luckily I took heed of that warning also and found a nice black USGI cotton one just as recommended. I have no idea how to use it but I'm sure they'll learn me.

Feel like you learned how to use the sling?

It was good working with you today. Now take the anti-inflammatories and drink some water.

Yes absolutely, I learned quite a lot today. It was a great experience! I will definitely be back. Thanks much for your help, and to the rest of the Appleseed crew there for the instruction, history lessons, and stories.

Popped some ibuprofen, definitely was needed :D

Our next Project Appleseed event at Berwyn Rod & Gun Club in Bowie, MD, is scheduled for June 10th-11th on the BRGC 100-yard range. Centerfire rifles may be used on our range.

Project Appleseed's heritage program vividly portrays the Battles of Lexington and Concord with the kind of care and immediacy that is absent from most formal schooling. Modern listeners are confronted with the danger, the fear, and the heartbreaking separations that arose out of the choices made on April 19th, 1775. They are also reminded of the marksmanship skills and masterful organization that ultimately helped set the colonists on the path to success. Those who attend gain a better understanding of the fundamental choices faced by our ancestors as they began to set the stage for the nation we now enjoy.

The Appleseed rifle marksmanship program complements that history and heritage. The focus is on teaching the traditional American marksmanship skills. There are, however, several aspects of the marksmanship program that deserve special mention. Project Appleseed is particularly proud of their younger attendees. In accordance with applicable local laws, young people with sufficient maturity and parental permission are welcome to the Appleseed line.

A semi-automatic rifle with a detachable magazine is recommended. If you don't have one, just let us know beforehand and we'll be glad to set you up with a loaner rimfire rifle to use for the event.

Registration for our Project Appleseed events can be accessed via the Appleseed Schedule for the State of Maryland (https://appleseedinfo.org/schedule/?qstate=MD&state=Maryland) or the direct link to register for this event (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/bowie-md-appleseed-june-10-11-2017-tickets-29462109964).

Please check the “How to Prepare for an Event” link for particularly useful information about preparing for your Appleseed event.

Feel free to contact me concerning these or any other public shooting events at BRGC.

The Maryland 400 and our 400th Rifleman Giveaway!

A Maryland Milestone.... and a great giveaway!

Some recent FB posts regarding the famed Maryland 400... the soldiers who literally sacrificed themselves to save our Nation during the Rev War Battle of Brooklyn, got me thinking... Just how many Riflemen have been forged at the Maryland events?

Well guess what?... As luck would have it, a tally of our Rifleman Roster ( see Appleseed Forums, Maryland sub-section) shows that we have indeed, had 400 (401 people to be exact) achieve their Rifleman status at the MD Cadre events!

So... In honor of our the Maryland 400 and our 400th Rifleman in Maryland, all those who achieve or re-qualify for their Rifleman status, during the remainder of 2017, will be entered for a chance for a give away of a VERY special Maryland Rifleman package. The winner will receive all the Appleseed swag at my disposal (flags, book, pins, t-shirts, stickers, etc, etc), a free Appleseed clinic for two during 2018, other great shooting "stuff", AND... drumroll... FREE admission to one of Appleseed's week long, Rifleman Boot Camps during 2018! That's a whole week of shooting, at distance, with the best instructors you'll find, camping out (if you chose) and totally immersing yourself in the marksmanship and Rev War history.

Make your plans NOW to get on the line, or get back on the line, for your chance at this ONE time opportunity... You don't have to live in Maryland... just have to attend one of our MD events during the remainder of 2017, to be eligible for the drawing. Let's get those lines filled, bring someone with you (you remember the top secret 7th step, don't you?), and close out 2017 with a BANG!

Let me check my calendar. It would be nice to get back out for a November or December event.

I'm eyeballing the 8/19 one day event at Annapolis. The last time I was able to make it out, it was early March and freezing cold. The sweltering mid-August heat may be a nice change :lol2:

Appleseeds the coming weekend of September 9th & 10th.

The shoot at Sanner's Lake Sportsman's Club this weekend is SOLD OUT, but Ladies, there are spots open on the line at Berwyn Rod & Gun Club (BRGC) in Bowie Maryland. There's only a handful of Ladyseed (Appleseed) Rifle Marksmanship clinics in the Country, and there's one RGHT HERE in Maryland!

    Register here.

See the post by me (two posts above) on what to bring and how to prepare.

    See you on the line!

Ladyseed in Bowie, MD - Berwyn Rod & Gun Club (BRGC), in

September 9th dawned a beautiful, sunshiny, cool day; an ideal day for a Ladyseed!

Three lady shooters showed up on the line at the Berwyn Rod & Gun Club (BRGC), in Bowie, MD for a ladies-only Appleseed rifle marksmanship clinic.
After kicking off with introductions and the safety brief, we completed our first Redcoat. All three ladies were first-time Appleseed participants, and two were first-time shooters. We then moved on to putting sighters on the Squares target... we were still seeing some loose groups, until we did the "Hold-the-Trigger-Back" drill, and BAM! Progress! They were excited to see their own progress, too, and were eager to learn more. After some history at lunch, we got back to marksmanship training - as the day progressed, it was apparent that the groups had improved significantly. All the shooters maintained a fabulous attitude, and huge improvements were made.

When Sunday morning came, it was equally lovely - what a perfect weekend to be at the range! All three returned eager to go, and after some more history and coaching, including mag-change drills and carding the sights, we got down to some AQTs. Even though there were no Rifleman patches handed out, HUGE progress was made and everybody had fun, too! One of the ladies, Martha verbalized that she really appreciated the slower pace and extra drills. One of our instructors, Aninha (My wife, Ana) said she thought the ladies appreciated that we took breaks and took the time to pay attention to what they needed (special drills) rather than only following the set plan...
We hope we see Adela, Maria, and Martha back on the line at some point... A RIFLEMAN PERSISTS!

    Huzzah!

Thank you very much to our host range, BRGC in Bowie, MD.
    Check out their website here.

And last but not least, many thanks to my fellow instructors MikeCee, Aninha, and PB4Y1, whose positive attitudes and professional demeanor made this a safe and successful shoot.

Check out the thread above for more shoots in Maryland!

    KD Appleseed

They can; it depends on the Shoot Boss and the interpretation of instructor / student ratio, and how they are progressing. They may teach the Known-Distance (KD) concept only, as we frequently do, linked to the "Rifleman's Quarter Mile."

Marriottsville is good to 100 yards, so we could.

If you check Sudlersville, that's the range we regularly try to do a KD at.

Do the AGC/Marriottsville Appleseeds do the known distance exercise now?
