so going threw a yugo sks cleaning it and checking into wear and trying to solve a issue that the owner of the gun was telling me about. cleaned it up changed the gas piston.so when i was putting it back together and changing it back to the original non removable mag. I can hook the front in place but you can not push the rear of mag down. if i dont hook the front in place the mag will seat and trigger assembly will install but obviously this not correct .It's almost like the hook mounted on the barrel needs to be moved forward a 1/8 inch.If i can fix its issues I'm thinking of buying it

When I redid the stock on my SKS I had the same issue. I can’t rememebr exactly what it was, but try pulling the receiver out of the stock and dropping it back in. See if that gets you the play you need. It was something like that that fixed it.

Does the action and stock match?

Cuzz a threaded barrel won't fit into a stock designed for a pressed and pinned barrel.

Have you tried assembling everything sans the stock?

It was completely assembled when I got it .I took it home because it was slam firering from his description . they used a detachable mag . I'm putting back together orig. Barrelled receiver stock it will go back together but the mag just doesn't seam correct watching you tube. if I hook front of mag try to push rear down very tight it so far up still you cant lock the trigger assembly in. I'm trying to decide if I want to purchase it from him. looks pretty good and has been I fun project

    Assemble it without the stock.

It will give you a better idea of what's wrong.

Is the fixed magazine original to the action? Same serial number? If not, it may very well require minor fitting.

This is the area you need to shave some.

Remove one blonde one and refit. Then another blonde one if needed.

The rear sight is pinned in place. It should have nothing to do with installing the action into the stock unless you are trying to install it upside down!

Make sure you have the receiver properly seated on the cross bolt. Insert the front of the magazine onto it's pins and then push the body into the stock. If the bolt is not in the receiver, you should still be able to use you finger to manipulate the bolt catch to allow the back of the magazine to seat. Install your trigger group, bolt assembly, recoil spring and cover. Not much to them.

If the stock does not match the receiver, that comes with a whole 'nother set of problems as stocks varied by country, date of production and sometimes which arsenal produced it. It is best to start with making sure the stock is the correct one for your receiver. If the cross bolt is in a slightly different place, modification will be required and is a pain in the backside! Placement is critical!

Lance, filing the front portion is how you fit the magazine on an SKS.

It could be that the mag was 1) never installed on a rifle or 2) was installed and fitted to another rifle.

PS I still have a bag of parts with a bolt, recoil spring and some other stuff in my truck for when we meet.
