As an update, I'm now leaning more towards doing a 14.5 inch or 16 inch midlength build. Engage has one of the Spikes Tactical pinned 14.5 inch uppers in stock and it's rather tempting.

With the 16 inch midlength, I'm thinking of doing a mock dissipator style upper.

Pic from intarwebs provided for those not familiar with the mock dissipator style:

Fixed FSP is going to be problematic with a serious magnified optc.

    No, it really isn't.

Matter of fact the higher the magnification the less obvious the front sight is.

With a 3x I can make out a shadow in the lower portion of the scope, by the time I get to 9x I'm lucky to notice anything.

Alright, I'm sourcing a bunch of parts from Engage and other sources to finish out the lower. Planned parts:

    Magpul Enhanced Trigger Guard
    Magpul ASAP Plate
    Magpul MOE+ Grip
    VLTOR Receiver Extension
    VLTOR EMOD Stock
    Spikes Tactical T2 Buffer
    Colt Castle Nut
    Brownells Action Spring

I guess the quality and amount of the lube used would take on a whole new importance. I've never seen a gunsmith with soft smooth hands.

Just as long as it's not Militec. Militec makes Garrett angry.

Does anyone have one of the FN barreled Palmetto State uppers? I'm seriously considering one for my build, and I'd like to hear any feedback if anyone has anything to say about them.

2 'smiths in the same thread?? It could be like Mad Max - 2 'smiths enter, 1 'smith leaves.
