I recently took possession of some pictures my Great Grandfather, Howard Titus, took during World War 2. I'd never seen them before, and I was utterly shocked at how cool they are. I probably have close to 200 or so, and I figured you guys would appreciate them as much as I do. He was in A-Battery of the 127th Anti-Aircraft Gun Battalion and was stationed on the cliffs of Dover in England, then moved to mainland Europe some time after D-Day. He took part in the Battle of the Bulge and the Rhineland campaign and later on guarded Russians and Polish soldiers who were captured fighting FOR the Germans. From what I read on his discharge papers, he brought home 4 Bronze Stars. He's the tall skinny guy that's in the first picture. Judging from the looks of it, the gun he was stationed on had 19 Kills.

Most of the pictures are grouped, but some of the cooler ones are singled which I'll have to scan and post later. If any of you guys want to see any close ups of anything, let me know.... Some of the pictures are graphic though, so be warned...

This'll prolly take a few posts to fit most in.

Here's some more. Last 3 are "Rated R". Notice how he calls them "Good Germans"

Welp, that should be it for tonight. I'm glad to see you guys think they're cool. I have quite a few more I'll post tomorrow once I get a chance to scan them. I even managed to get a hold of a letter he wrote and some other items he brought back.

I'm really glad he captioned them. It feels a lot different seeing personal pictures like this than the usual ones you always see on history channel programs. The pictures of the bodies especially make the tone known (I have a few more for tomorrow).

    Awesome pics. Priceless family heirloom.
    Thank you for sharing

My maternal grandfather was a Pearl Harbor survivor and paternal grandfather was a D-Day survivor. Both survived the war and lived long, fruitful lives, but there were never any pics of them-not even stateside posing in a uniform :sad20:

Be very thankful for that rich family history!!

Wow. Rare to find so many with details. I have some of my grandfather's that he still had and some I found online of him. He was ground crew in the 100th bomb group. There happens to be a very good site dedicated to the bloody hundredth. You may find one out there for your great grandfather's outfit as well and find even more.

As soon as you can, scan those with a high resolution scanner, make copies on multiple CDs, and be sure that each of your family members has a copy. That's amazing family history, and you don't want to risk it being lost as the originals fade or (God forbid) something happens to them.

A priceless collection. He must have been very organized to label all the pictures. That alone greatly enhanced the value of the pictures
