Maybe a dumb question, but with our gun laws you can never be to sure.

I recently bought a house, and am moving entirely within the State. I already have a HQL, but am unsure if I am required to notify the state police upon moving of my new address.

Pretty sure I don't, but just wanted to verify.

Its a good question, worth asking. I have no definitive answer, but looking at my HQL, it seems to be tied to your DL soundex. Seems to me as long as you update your DL, you're set...

Your license or government ID should reflect your primary residence.

However, I'd just turn around. :)

I don’t believe that the HQL is tied to drivers licenses anymore. When MD went to the secure ID format, they stopped agencies from accessing drivers license info. Hence no more photos on the HQL. It’s always a good idea to update your address with any license you hold. And that reminds me to update my own HQL... LOL

The HQL has nothing to do with possession. It is not a license to possess, just a license to acquire.

Once you have acquired a handgun, the HQL is irrelevant until you want to acquire another handgun. Until then, the address on the HQL is just as meaningless as the license itself.

Now if you go to buy another handgun sometime after you move, then it makes sense to update your HQL with your new address, so that it matches the new 77r. Until then, there's no need to update the HQL, or even continue to possess it.

I have no idea if the MSP has a process for change of address. Seems they should, for the single reason I cited.

It's important to remember that the HQL is completely inrelated to possessing or owning a handgun. It is purely an unconstitutional infringement on ACQUISITION.

There is a menu item in the HQL portal to update your address. (Not the 77r portal)

Go to the menu item Demographics Update to update your address info.

    "Demographics Update. "

That's if you change your gender identity, right?

I see no reason to update your HQL unless you expect to acquire another handgun. It's bad enough submitting to their unconstitutional infringement even then.

I just told the OP how to do it if he's interested.

There is no statutory requirement to keep it updated AFAIK

    I don't care either way

I see no mention of gender or gender identity in the definition.

    YMMV

If you claim illegal status you don't need to do anything but just sneak in . Some counties will hide you and pay you to vote , if you break laws while in the state Frosh and others will make excuses for you .

So i would say the hell with notifying anyone .
