Fixed stock and no flash hider? I'd pass on that. I've seen IPs advertise the model # 8511 which has an adjustable stock and an A2 flash hider, that would be my preference.

GymRatz has had #8511 in stock for under $500 at least 3 times this year, and I've seen them advertised by a few other IP's (Maybe Jlowe?).

I picked one up at the last sale, and it's a fine entry level AR. It wouldn't be my first choice as my only AR, but as a spare/backup/dependable shooter, it's just fine. I'd definitely list it as a good value, especially at John's typical sale price.

In case you're not aware, collapsible stocks are MD legal.

You don't need a fixed stock, you just can't have a folding one.

Good to know. I need to figure what limits MD puts on the AR so I can get the most bang for the buck, so to speak.

Actually, you can have a folding stock. The features test: You cannot have a folding stock, detachable mag AND flash hider. You can have a folding stock, detachable mag, and a muzzle break (or no barrel accessory at all). Or you can have a collapsible stock, detachable mag, and flash hider.

What makes the AR-15 MD compliant is the "Heavy Barrel" mainly, no so much the features -most AR15s have a collapsible stock not a folder.

I picked up a real nice Colt M4 hbar at Engage. I think it’s more than the Ruger. I recommend Engage Armament. Great guys down there!
