Up until now I have reloaded only pistol cartridges with round nose. I store my cartridges loose I a plastic ammo box. Is it safe to do that with .30 cal spire point projectile or is there a danger of the points igniting primers?

    ok, thanks. I thought so.

Another question: I just reloaded my first 100 rifle cartridges and am mulling over my process to see if I can improve. Seems the biggest obstacle is case trimming, which I am doing off press with this: https://leeprecision.com/case-condtioning-combo.html

Question 1: What do those of you with progressive presses do for case trimming?

Question 2: I am decapping and priming on my turret press. Right now I decap/full length size, take the cases of the press to trim and deburr, then return to the sizing die to prime. That means all cases go through the sizing die twice, raising the potential to overwork the brass. Is it safe to prime on the downbstroke after charging the case? I have never had a primer go off while seating, but anything can happen.

Loading rifle cases in my progressive I treat the cases the same as pistol except for 1) I anneal them every sixth load (.223 does not get this) and I measure them after cleaning and the long ones get put in a box until I want to trim them. (you can buy an expensive trimmer if you have a Dillon 650) The reason I anneal is to keep from getting blow back from my bolt actions. It causes fliers and fogs my glasses.

I never clean primer pockets ever. For the cases I use a single stage or turret head for, the case gets primed on the down stroke. I have never had a primer go off without a firing pin hitting it in my 45 years or so of reloading.

The CMP shipped 200 rounds of .30-06 loose in a plastic bag packed in .30 caliber ammo cans all over the country for years.

Of course since priming is on the down stroke, any down stroke will work equally well without running the case through the sizing die. ( I hate idiots, especially when the idiot is ME!!!!!)

Depending on powder type and flash hole size, you’ll make a big mess as the powder pours out through the flash hole.
