Seriously, what gprimr1 said . What was generally regarded as the opening of Revolutionary Way was literally triggered by the Gov't attempting to confiscate guns .

Ed Asner was always a hard leftist ( if moderate by comparison to Grandpa Walton ) . But until this thread , I hadn't realized Asner was still alive .

Nation founded on gun control my ass.

Wait, wait, I think he's right. Were not the men on Bunker Hill( Breeds Hill) told to control their muskets and not let them fire until the men could see the Gov't soldiers " whites of their eyes" ? :innocent0

Ed Asner is correct. This nation was founded on gun control. The British attempted to control the colonists' firearms through confiscation. We all know how well that worked out.

The nation was founded on a desire to prevent gun control.

Came to page 2 to say this, found that 3 or 4 beat me to it.

The battles of Lexington and Concord occurred as acts of resistance to attempt to prevent confiscation of Colonial powder stores.

Yeah, Ed Asner the actor who played Lou Grant (editor) on the Mary Tyler Moore show....guess that makes him an expert, saying the Nation was founded on defiance of gun control.

    Fixed it for him.

Asner is an elite revisionist Marxist. Makes a career of combining logic and falsehoods in hopes of convincing the masses to willingly enslave themselves.

Asner ignores that there is a "Militia Act" enacted by Congress in 1792 that states requirements of "Militia".
First, Militia is every "free able-bodied white male citizen" between the ages of 18 and 45. During the Civil War it was expanded to all males of any race, 18 to 54 years old. There were exceptions for occupations considered necessary to continue commerce, gov, etc.
So, just about every male had to be in the "Militia".

Antis always ignore that the law states militia members, which is every male 18-54 "...shall within six months thereafter, provide himself..." with a musket, bayonet and belt, two spare flints, a cartridge box with 24 bullets, and a knapsack. Men owning rifles were required to provide a powder horn, ¼ pound of gunpowder, 20 rifle balls, a shooting pouch, and a knapsack.
Nowhere does the Act(s) say the Fed, State, or local Gov. will purchase and provide a firearm and ammunition for a state run Militia or National Guard. It states the Individual will purchase a musket or rifle to equip himself.

Hence, anyone with half a comprehension of what they have read in the Act understands Congress always intended individuals to own their own firearms.

Oh, that Militia Act has been updated several times, creating the current National Guard setup. That is all irrelevant to the conversation as we are discussing what the Congress of the Founding Fathers intended and what the Congress immediately following the adoption of the Constitution believed it said in the 2nd Amendment.
