I have been looking at this site for the last few months and figured it would be a good idea to sign up and try to learn something. I am close to buying an AR-15 and was wondering about pricing/headaches involved in building one. I have looked over other sites and all their advice, but it seems like I wouldn't save all that much as opposed to just buying a complete rifle from a local store. So if any of you have first hand knowledge or know some obscure sites with great deals, it would help me out in making a decision.

A second project I am tinkering with is modernizing a 91/30. I removed the Nagant's rear sight (the whole thing down to the rail underneath) and believe it or not, the rail is at a slight angle to the barrel. I have mounted a scope to the rail and i basically have to crank it all the way tot he right to get it lined up with a bore sight laser. This really doesn't work all that well since it will be off as the range changes. So do any of you have any suggestions for attaching a scope with this flaw on the gun? Should I just weld a new rail on top of it? It is possible to design a cheap shim to straighten the scope?

If either of those two subjects interest you then please share your knowledge and experiences with me.

    Thanks.

Welcome from a local baltimore city guy. I was going to build my own. but i end'd up buying my first one. i got spooked about the build but honestly it does not look to difficult just takes patience and some special tools can make it easier but it depends on you here is a guide a member gave to me
    http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_4/22...__GAS_BLOCK___Step_by_step_instructions_.html

gives you full detail on how to build an ar15. Good luck to you in whatever you decide to do.
I do know i will be building my own ar soon i just wanted to get comfortable with one first.

I was eyeballing a Daniel Defense M4V4. I would rather pay more for quality but I don't see the point in paying more just for a name. So the hang up I have is if I should wait and try to find great deals on the upper and lower (bc right now I'm not seeing great deals compared to the complete rifle). Or if I should go with a cheaper brand where for all intents and purposes it really doesn't make a difference in practical quality.

I'll definitely post pics if people are interested but I think I'll keep pics of the Nagant to myself. My various mods to it have become outright comical for the general lack of skill and coordination I displayed. All I can say is that taking off the rear sight was worthy of putting on youtube.

My efforts with the 91/30 has me convinced I don't want to mod an AR-15 too much. The build doesn't look that difficult (especially just a lower build) but my tinkering tends to take longer than most other people. I am leaning towards just getting the Daniel Defense and being done with it. PSA is intriguing.....
