Maryland Small Arms Range is not far from the north end of the county.

Don't go there. I've had some bad experiences with them. They refuse to address the waiting issue. So, you drive up there (45 minutes) and you never know of you're going to get a lane. You'll be sitting there waiting and half the range will be shut down. You and 10 other people wondering WTH, they could be making money!

I live in Calvert Co. and have to drive to Myrtle Grove almost an hour away to shoot. It sucks but at least it's cheap($5 per day).

I you go more than 3 times a year, its better to buy the $20 for a year permit from the DNR. It runs from August to August, NOT a year from when you buy it though.

https://compass.dnr.maryland.gov/dnrcompassportal
or you can do it at a DNR licensing agent or over the phone, details here under "Shooting Range" section: https://dnr.maryland.gov/wildlife/Pa...rtlegrove.aspx

I agree, MSA is never my first choice, but I've found if I go during off hours (weekdays, Sunday afternoons during football season) it's not that bad. Plus if you reload, no one polices up their brass. I always bring back way more than I shot.
