This bill is so dumb; it bans firearms based on a features test, then exempts named models that fail the test.

You guys have The Gabby Gifford Semiautomatic Firearm Reclamation Center For A Safer America up and running already.

Listen carefully and you can hear the machinery beating our guns in to a zillion pieces.

Aluminum is this pile. Steel in that pile. Plastic goes over there.

    Geeze!

They want to ban ALL guns.

Yup. Reading the text of the bill, they intend to ban ALL semi-auto shotguns.

In my MD-DNR Hunter Training class, they were quite explicit about having your pump shotgun properly plugged so it would only accept 3 shells when you were hunting game birds. They also noted that you could expect a DNR field patrol to check your shotgun using the shortest available shells - typically 1-3/4".

    (36) The term ‘semiautomatic assault weapon’ means any of the following, regardless of country of manufacture or caliber of ammunition accepted:
.(F) A semiautomatic shotgun that has any 1 of the following:
..(iii) A fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 5 rounds.

So if your semi-auto shotgun can hold 3 or more shells (which I believe is all of them, as it would be silly to have a two-shot semi-auto shotgun) you had better hope that it stays on the "exempt" list. Note there's no mention of a magazine plug or other restrictive device ... just the "capacity."

Speaking of which, why does the "exempt" list contain a whole lotta firearms that don't meet the "semiautomatic assault weapon" requirements? Seriously, they include a bunch of single-shot rifles and shotguns, lever-action rifles, pump shotguns, over-under and side-by-side shotguns, and rimfire rifles. None of these are semi-auto. My gut says they're trying to draw a line in the sand ... manufacture of "new" models of any type are prohibited because they're not on "the list."

I'm calling BS on using some trick short obscure 12 ga shell. Expect to be checked with the ammo you are carrying.

    Is an officer going to carry 10, 12, 16, 28, 20 & 410 ?

Both our state senators are proposing a ban on assault weapons.
Those in the hands of Marylanders will be able to keep them.
The scramble begins and prices to soar.
I'm getting an AR lower now just in case this actually gains traction. My debate now is do I build it into a .223/5.56 or 300 AAC. I already have an AR pistol in .223 Wylde.

Aaahm just reporting what they told us. Up until that point, I was unaware that 1-3/4" shotshells even existed ... yes, I did look it up in response to their claim ('cuz I was dubious, too.)

They carry a flexible tube marked with depths that is strong enough to push the plunger forward on the tubular magazine. If you have a 12 gauge and you are shooting 3 1/2" shells it will still be checked for 2 3/4 shell capacity. If there is 7 1/2 inches of storage in the magazine or more you will get cited. A 2 3/4 shell has a closed length of 2 1/2 inches.

Let me just say I am glad that are Senator standing up to make Maryland a safer place. I'm sure once we ban these evil assault rifles I will be able to confidently and safely walk through any Baltimore city street without fear of being shot up or assaulted. And when I looked on the FBI crime statistics and saw that hands and feet accounted for more than double all homicides caused by all rifles I knew that must have been fake news put in there by the Russians and James Comey. I mean we can clearly see after our state set an example in 2013, it made Maryland a much safer place. And I'm sure if we implemented this on a national level every one of the little Urban villages or gun crime is a problem it will be solved and Democrats will be able to sleep tight at night and Pat themselves on their backs regularly. We will all be able to live in this Utopia built with our heads in the sand because ignorance is bliss

I don't think this can be true. Even using 2.75" with a plug would fail using 1.75".

    12 Gauge Minishell / 7-1/2

12 Gauge | Shot THERE’S NOTHING MINI ABOUT ITS PERFORMANCE.
The perfect option for anyone new to competition clay shooting, our mini-shotshell offers less recoil and a quiet report. We are proud to be the only producer of a shotshell this size. Available in 7 ½ shot.

Would anyone actually try to hunt with these?

Maybe they have not seen how Baltimore is and instead of gun control need to do womb control.

That's what Margaret Sanger intended when she founded Planned Parenthood and saw that the facilities were placed in urban areas to provide for the extinction of the black race...eugenics at its finest.

And the Liberals honor her and the organization she founded...and the lemmings that refuse to hear the truth of her and her stated aims.
