So this build began as an impulse buy. The range was closed so i stopped by Baltimore’s Best to look around. So that’s why I’m posting this tale. It’s a warning that visiting a gun shop after a failed range visit is like going to the grocery store while starving. So I see a YHM 9mm glock lower. Something I’ve been meaning to build but in the back burner is an AR PCC. 10 minutes later and I’m waking out with it. After getting home and researching I decide I need a matching upper so I get full LRBO function and locking back on an empty mag. Not as easy at it sounds as apparently these haven’t been that popular and supply is pretty low. I did however find one at a decent price so I decided to order everything to complete the build that night. Big mistake! The upper isn’t close to a Milspec AR so the Aero rail I ordered wouldn’t fit. Totally my fault but that’s strike one. Then I find out the Foxtrot Mike BCG won’t work with the lower. Again my fault since it’s posted on the YHM website that I never checked for compatibility. Strike two. Fearing a third strike would frustrate me enough to scrap the build plans I call YHm and match every new part with something they have used and had success with. So I get a new BCM rail and CMMG bcg and start to assemble.
I get everything built, lower is really nice with the CMC 3.5 trigger and Strike enhanced lpk. Barrel goes on nice with the rail, and then boom strike 3. Since I ordered a 5.5” Ballistic Advantage barrel and a 7” rail I had always planned on a Kaw Valley linear comp. the problem is the standard Kaw Valley is too big to fit in the small diameter BCM rail, where the original Aero was plenty big. At this point I put it all away for a week and focused on other builds. Luckily a few days later I came across the Kaw Valley “slim” model, and it luckily enough cleared the BCM by a 1/10th. I got it ordered and by some miracle the build was complete and functional. I think I got anpretty tough lesson in being diligent about making sure parts are compatible before ordering, but at the end of the day i think it’s even better than I had previously planned.
