    From that philly article:
Defense Distributed was making its gun plans available to anyone who obtained a membership by paying a nominal fee, according to the lawsuit filed by Shapiro and Wolf.

That couldn’t be more wrong. Anyone can download the files at no cost at all. Paid memberships thru Defense Distributed Legio are completely optional.

Something Marylander's can do for Pennsylvania gun owners. We can download files and carry them across the state line when we go to PA to buy our standard capacity magazines.

    IP address?

Yes, that's how they are doing it. It's funny, because despite what gets repeated over and over again on TV and elsewhere, there is no hard link between IP address and physical location. In some cases it's easy to figure out exactly where a computer using a given address is, but not always. There are services that geolocate IP addresses, but it's an imperfect science and all of those directories are rife with errors, but it's the only thing out there. So when something like this case comes up, you can subscribe to a service that will basically give you a big list of every address in NJ or PA or wherever, and then you can block requests from those addresses.

Yup. Or any other VPN will defeat it also.

In fact, as a point of professional advice (IANAL and all that, but I am an "IT guy") if I were going to download these files, I would make sure that I was using a good VPN service that not only encrypts but anonymizes your connection and doesn't keep logs, and is based in, say..... Switzerland where they aren't subject to US law. Something like https://protonvpn.com, actually.

Looking forward to PA, NJ, and Los Angeles paying for these files being distributed in their territories.

Ya know.... why is all the legal weight on DD? Even though the files are available for free download, shouldn't the onus be on the citizens of NJ or LA to NOT download the files or manufacture the guns if they are illegal in their jurisdictions?

    Yes.

However, that's not going to stop guys like Grewal and the others from trying to bury DD under the weight of spurious lawsuits in order to allow themselves to climb up and do some grandstanding.

Defense Distributed, the Texas nonprofit that generated the printer plans, has agreed “to refrain from posting new information and to block all information from being accessed in Pennsylvania,” according to an order from Judge Paul S. Diamond filed Monday morning.

The attorney general’s office must file an amended complaint and motion for an injunction by 5 p.m. Monday, the order said.

The files for making guns with a 3D printer are set to be published online by Defense Distributed by Wednesday, thanks to a State Department settlement ending a years-long ban on their publication. At least one plan, for an AR-15, was uploaded to the group’s website Friday for download, causing controversy nationwide.

Our federal government is allowing anyone armed with a computer and a printer to make and distribute guns

In what way, Frosh, does the new settlement in ANY way change a person's ability to legally distribute guns? He's knowingly, deliberately lying.

    Judge shopping

The suit, to be filed Monday in Seattle, asks for an order to block the federal government from lifting its ban on the gun plans and to prevent the company, Defense Distributed, from continuing to make the blueprints available on the Internet.

Democratic officials in Washington, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Maryland, New York and the District of Columbia are behind the suit.

The company filed its own suit in Texas on Sunday, asserting that it's the victim of an "ideologically-fueled program of intimidation and harassment" that violates the company's First Amendment rights.

The company's attorney, Josh Blackman, called it an "easy case."

States are free to enact gun control measures, but "what they can't do is censor the speech of another citizen in another state, and they can't regulate the commerce of another citizen in another state when that commerce is authorized by a federal government license," Blackman said in an interview Monday. "It's a violation of the First Amendment, it's unconscionable and we're going to fight it to the very end."
