Is there a description of what different "years" mean, 1894, 1873, etc?
There's a good Hickok45 video on the different Henry and Winchester lever actions that gives background. The 1873 was a Winchester design that preceded John Moses Browning. The subsequent ones (until 1894) are all his designs, with stronger mechanisms, allowing more powerful cartridges. Some modifications were done to accommodate cartridges of different lengths. My favorites are the 1892s and 1894s (called Model 94s) for their balance, clean lines, and how natural it is to point them. A real joy to shoot as well, although they are less suited for Cowboy Action rapid fire.

The Rossi 92 should be sufficient for what you two are looking to do. Easy to find for $500 or less. They come with a rear sight and a scope mount. Nice guns, not great for SASS but they are strong enough to take +P 45 Colt loads.

I seen something called the colt lightning on a video today, looks like a handy rifle. short stroke pump in .45lc

I happen to own one :D At this point, five companies have made a version, and Colt appears to be the only one that made a reliable version. Even my Taurus Thunderbolt isn't very reliable. They originally came in the bottleneck cartridges that Winchester came out with. Straightwall cartridges require more work than Taurus or other manufacturers wanted to put in them. Seems Pedersoli fixed the problems, since Taylor's is selling them now. Taurus fixed things, but by the time they figured it out their name was Mudd in the SASS field. Mine seems to run well, but the screws come loose very easily. I think I'll have the barrel lined to make it a 44-40, or if I'm really feeling it, 38-40.

well the reason i want a lever or pump in 45lc is.... this little guy lives with me and needs a longer companion in case i have to take on some Desperado's :D

Thanks for the info and video. Any model more conducive to deer/hog hunting and their associated loads?

    Love my lever rifles

I have Henry's, Rossi's, and one Marlin. But I love my little Rossi R92 .45 Colt carbine the best.

If MD Shooters ever does a meet up again at an outdoor range, I would be willing to bring my 1860, my 92, and my Thunderbolt. I'll even bring blackpowder rounds.

id Rather have the Uberti but not lovn the price, You think they got the bugs worked out of the thunderbolts? I might just buy one of them, they are cheap in price at least compared to others

They're cheap for a reason. They originally sold for $1100. If they go back to Taurus, they just replace it with a different kind of gun. If you are looking to get one, make sure you either run it yourself or see it working before plunking down cash, as it either works or it doesn't. There are a couple of cowboy smiths who work on these, but they're not cheap to fix.

A Rossi 92 is strong enough for +P loads. Or you could get the 454 version if you don't like your shoulder. Taylor's has them.

I have the .454 its a beast. Took a lot of adjustment to get it to run .454 and .45LC interchangeably but I got there.

Reasonably accurate, short, smooth after some stoning.
