    "In response to federal legislation, the Howard County police department will begin certifying retired officers to carry concealed weapons."

    "Until July 2004, it was unlawful for retired Maryland officers to carry a gun."

    "But last year the U.S. Congress approved the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act, which enables off-duty and retired police to carry concealed weapons in Maryland and across state lines, provided those weapons are certified by a police agency."

    Residents must keep tabs on which county police departments "gleefully" certify (CCW) their retired officers and hammer them if they don't support the civilian right to do so!
