My 870 is about 6 years old
It functions fine but I feel the fit of the barrel has a bit of slop . Barel can can’t some which affects hitting clays depending on how much it’s twisted when putting together. Too much and it shoots a tad to the right

They should be aiight, but there are some things to look out for. One thing to be weary of is the chamber cut having a ridge on it that catches brass. When I got my 870, probably back around 2010 or so, the chamber was cut in a way that looks like the tooling was worn and caused a ring-mark around the entrance. Shells would get stuck and I'd have to mortar the action open. A drill and brillo pad later, with some fore and aft polishing largely fixed that issue...later tossing an 18" aftermarket barrel on completely remedied it.

I was going to say the same thing because that’s exactly what happened to mine. Had to do some dremel work to get it right.

Pretty frustrating for a home defense specific shotgun. Definitely not as smooth as the old wing master.

I’ve seen some decent police trade ins going around. Some are well worn but functional none the less

Lost all my guns in a house fire back in November...just borrowed some stuff from
my brother given the current situation...also,
went out and bought a youth 870 Express in
20 gauge do the wife could handle it...she
has only fired an M1 carbine in the past...
the 870’s slide got stuck hard
halfway through its throw before I even
    loaded a single cartridge...wouldn’t budge...
nice folks on the forum here offered
suggestions and help...but, then I read
about the QC issues with what used to be
great guns (I bought this one on that
reputation, thinking the QC problems did
not extend to such a classic system). So, I
called Remington to ship it back for fixing
before I messed up the warranty.
    Lesson learned.
Will be saving up for a Mossberg 590A1...
real milspec reliability I have read. Haven’t
    yet handled one.

I bought an 870 about 5 years ago and I had significant FTE issues. Took it back under warranty, but it still does it frequently.
