I loaded 12 ga shell for a number of years, some hunting loads and many skeet loads. Used a 1972 manual Mec Junior. very easy one you take time to learn the steps and use quality spent shells.

Any updated information concerning this 3 year old thread?
Can I just pick up range shells like range brass and reload?
I’m looking at a progressive MEC.
Anything else I should be aware of?
    Powder suggestions?

A MEC would be a good press to start with. You'll need bushings to match your desired shot weight and powder weight. I'd get a bunch of bushings because they almost never throw what they say. Powder type will depend on the shot weight, gauge, desired velocity, etc. You'll need wads to match your shot weight and hulls. AA hulls used to be the cat's meow, but Remington STS and Nitro hulls are a pretty solid choice now. Some hulls like different primers so keep that in mind. Pick out the shot you want and some reloading manuals or online recipes. Once you get set up for a specific hull, stick to it. You can't mix hulls like you mix pistol range brass. Your crimps will be all over the place, the wads aren't necessarily compatible, you risk bloopers, etc.

Are you shooting 3/4 oz skeet, 1oz trap, 1 1/8 handicap, sporting cays, 1oz slugs, 12 gauge, 20 gauge?

That should be able to point you in a good direction.

I obtained the shotgun for some 3 gun competition but i shot some trap today and I can see myself having some fun with that too. The range allows 7 1/2 - 9 shot with a limit of 1200 FPS.
