This is where Science vs. Truth. Science seeks repeatable observations that support a hypothesis such as more guns = more violence. But these observations are often contained by a variety of assumptions and externalities that make them overly narrow and capture externalities. Its hard to filter those out in the real world.
Truth has broader implications and requires observational and conceptual thought. Usually well beyond the liberal (reactive) mind.
