So we have “hobbies” under the second amendment? I thought they were RIGHTS!!!

Meh, he's a piker compared to Stenny's weasel worded FOAD 2A replies. You have no idea what his position is at all by the time you're finished.

The entire DC bunch are poster children for Term Limits. They may cast a quick side glance at the BOR just before voting to increase taxes/reduce civil rights. EXCEPT THEIRS.

That fat old clod Dutch. “Guns that do the most harm” oh you mean the Jimenez 22lr pistols and Davis 32’s used in crimes? Oh no you mean rifles which are in the statistically insignificant category of crimes. So glad that slob gets health insurance for life on our dime.

"....Further, I agree with many Americans that, to a certain extent, it’s the shooter, not the gun..."

So he minimizes the extent to which the shooter is to blame and maximizes the gun as the real problem. The man is awash in gun grabber kool aid.:sad20:

IMHO he is nothing but a gun grabber who is trying to hide in sheep's clothing. You could point out to them all day long the only difference between the bolt gun and the "black scary rifle"is the plastic and how the insides work. It uses the same barrel and same ammo as well. Yep they will never listen and will try to get rid of the "black scary gun" as soon as they are able to....

Even before they get rid of all the "black scary rifle"'s they are starting to go after the bolt guns also, the LQL is just a start.:mad54:

One of my favorite hobbies is breathing. Among other reasons, I keep and bear arms so that I can continue to breath under conditions that might otherwise interrupt that hobby. One of my other hobbies is enjoying the fact that my wife is breathing. I own guns so that I can continue to enjoy that hobby, as well.

First post... had to share this.

    I said,
"As your constituent, I cannot understand how you could think a YEA vote on HR8 is appropriate. It seems too many folks are not "voting their conscience" anymore, and are falling victim to manipulation along party lines.

I am disappointed and will be sure to spread the word that you do not seem to understand or wish to protect our Constitutional Right to keep and bear arms. The Second Amendment is not a second-class right. Please stop treating it as such.

I will be praying for you."

    He replied,
    "Dear Xxxxx Xxxxx:

One of the best parts of my job is hearing from constituents. I appreciate that you have taken the time to contact me, and I welcome this opportunity to respond directly to your concerns.

Like you, I believe that most gun owners are responsible and wish to do no harm to others. And I understand how, in the wake of instances of extreme gun violence, you feel your right to practice the hobbies you are entitled to under our Second Amendment have come under threat.

Further, I agree with many Americans that, to a certain extent, it’s the shooter, not the gun. Mental health is a big part of the problem and must be addressed. But we can also reduce the carnage with common-sense measures. That is why I support a ban on the importation, sale, manufacture, transfer or possession of a semiautomatic assault weapon. To be clear, this is not a ban on all guns, but a ban on the ones that cause the most harm.

What I do not support is the seizure of ordinary firearms capable of protecting your family or commonly used by sportsmen. Good public policy is based on balance, and I truly believe we can achieve a balance between upholding the Second Amendment and ensuring public safety with common-sense measures that are already supported by most Americans.

    C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger
    Member of Congress" ...end quote

Well, he certainly seems to misunderstand, calling a Constitutional Right a "hobby you are entitled to", and going on to say that he supports a ban on semiautomatic firearms, but not "ordinary" ones, when we all know semiautos are pretty ordinary. He also chose to use the word "seizure" in his reply as well... It bothered me.

My stomach is in knots and I wonder if this sense of tension is something akin to what it must have felt like in early April 1775... God help us.

Gun grabber socialist. He and Congress do not have the authority to decide which gun I can buy. Called the 10th Amendment.
"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people"

    Enumerated powers

Among the powers specifically given to Congress in Article I Section 8, are the following: https://usconstitution.net/xconst_A1Sec8.html

I would, If I where you, send this response back to him.

    Dear Mr. Me,

Thank you for contacting me to share your views on gun control and violence in our communities. I certainly appreciate your taking the time to make me aware of your concerns about this important matter.

I am deeply saddened by the countless mass shootings that have subjected many innocent lives to the horrors of gun violence. It is clear more than ever that prayer and moments of silence are not enough. In the past, our nation had fallen into a pattern of grief and inaction. Whenever a mass murder occurred, whether against worshipers at a church, schoolchildren in their classrooms, moviegoers in a theater, young people in a nightclub, or reporters, we prayed for the victims and their families, and held moments of silence.

I fully support the many students and advocacy groups that are engaged and organizing movements to call for action on this issue. In 2016, I joined many of my Democratic colleagues in the House of Representatives, including civil rights leader Representative John Lewis, in a twenty-six-hour sit-in on the House Floor. Democrats held the sit-in to demand that House Republicans bring legislation to address gun violence to a vote. We sat on the House Floor not to shut it down, but to open it up. By refusing to allow votes even on measures with broad, bipartisan support it was the Republican Majority that had truly shut down the Floor.

The fact of the matter is Americans want action, and we ought to have action. Which is why I was proud to stand with them and my colleagues in an effort to end gun violence as we introduced H.R. 8, legislation that will require comprehensive background checks for all gun purchases and that is supported by most Americans. I support reasonable, common-sense proposals to help protect our communities while ensuring the rights of responsible gun owners, such as our hunters and sportsmen. In the past, these recommendations have included implementing universal background checks, banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, banning bump stocks, strengthening background checks, enhancing school safety, and expanding mental health safeguards and services. I look forward to continue working with my colleagues in Congress on this important issue.

Thank you again for sharing your thoughts with me. I encourage you to visit my website at www.hoyer.house.gov. While there, you can sign up for the Hoyer Herald, access my voting record, and get information about important public issues. If I can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

    With kindest regards, I am

    Sincerely yours,

    Steny H. Hoyer

The Democrat Party is full on anti-Constitution and anti-American. They favor illegal aliens over native-born citizens, criminals over law-abiding citizens, and their own distorted notion of "common-sense" over the law. And they hold power...how?

    And they hold power...how?

By running the unions that run the public schools. By being wildly over-represented in the fields of media/entertainment and higher education. They shape the majority of lazy young minds, and get exactly the result they need to turn out low-information, emotion-driven, nanny-state-hungry voters in the millions. That’s how.

Just another worthless domestic enemy of our constitution. It's long past time to enforce the oath all politicians and police take to support and defend our constitution against all enemies.
