Bambi Whacking 2021-2022

The annual Bambi (th)wacking season is just over two weeks out.

I'm getting a late start this year. Blind is dusted off and ready for deployment this weekend. Lanes are cleared. Cameras need to be re-positioned in a few spots. Crossbow is out and ready for some overdue practice shots. Probably going to get a late start going out in the field though, due to a pre-opening day medical procedure involving a number of stitches near a mobile joint. I'd prefer not to rip those out too early. So, I'm looking at being an observer for the first few weeks.

Summer cams suggest a good number of bucks this year on the property with the usual solid complement of does. One of two of last year's big 8 points is back and looking like a nice 10 pointer this year.

Good luck to the early starters.

It better cool off by 20 or 30 degrees before that happens.

I stopped early bow about 25 years ago. I got in my stand early on opening day, and as the sun got up far enough to heat up a little, I had a 250 pound, 6’ spider drop in on me. I never climbed down a 16’ ladder so fast (I think I jumped the bottom 8’) I left my bow hanging in the tree and went to work.

(I may have exaggerated the size of the spider a little, but not much!)

Critical Deer Theory (CDT) in full effect around my way recently.
We are.....At this time discussing/initiating additional elements to expand likely hood of kill em all strategy as well as determination of if its brown its down technology applications may be needed or need immediately placed into service if/when necessary.
Block targets have not responded well to multiple contacts and we are not sure what happened to the small stand in the little up front zone at this time.
A small contingent is however prepared to respond accordingly when multiple wild-land locations may have suffered damage to various access routes-foot corridors due to tropical storms/hurricane activity in the vicinity.
End of report.... CDT Eastern Out.

Im seeing more little bucks than ever. Have heard a lot of night shooting though over the summer. Had one big guy on camera that disappeared late June. Have 2 more hangons to do but w temps in mid 90s and heat index over 100 it is not happening unless i do it at night. Which might not be a bad idea.

I typically find those crawling on the back of my neck 15 minutes into my ride home. It’s unnerving for sure.

I'm seeing a lot of BIG does in these hills off my deck. Few bucks so far.
