My decided she likes my AR15 more than my pistols so she insists I build her one.

I want it to be light, mine is a 3 gun rifle and it's pretty beefy around 9-9.5lbs. So I'm tossing around a few ideas of what to make her.
It needs to be lightweight and have an optic with some magnification.

I was thinking lightweight 14.5" barrel w/ muzzle device welded or an AR pistol which would eventually be SBR'ed.

    Thoughts?

Faxon does a fluted heavy barrel the weighs a lot less than a standard heavy barrel.

    This.

Depending on how much she's going to be running through it, you could also look into a polymer lower to keep the weight down so long as you're going with a fluted HB upper.

You could always go 9mm SBR if you want to keep it REALLY light.

Build her an AR pistol and SBR it. Barrel length and profile then become moot. Personally, I'd build her a 300 BLK, although what's great about an SBR AR is that you can also build her other uppers she can throw on it depending on what she wants to do that day at the range.

Purchase and submit the paperwork on a silencer while you're at it, and about a year later you can present it to her as another gift and really make her smile :)))

    This crossed my mind already.
"It's ugly." Is the response I got. She likes the Sig MPX better. Obviously solely on looks. Which makes sense because the Sig is twice as expensive!

She won't shoot it much. Once every other month I I imagine. I'm thinking the AR pistol would be the cheapest route. Then eventually SBR it.

I'd get this http://faxonfirearms.com/16-taper-9mm-pistol-caliber-carbine-blowback-4150-qpq/ and this http://faxonfirearms.com/faxon-9mm-pcc-blowback-full-mass-bolt-carrier-group-complete-nitride/ and this https://www.joeboboutfitters.com/Matrix_Arms_Charlie_KeyMod_Handguard_p/ma-charlie.htm and this https://www.joeboboutfitters.com/POF_AR15_AR10_4_5lb_Trigger_w_KNS_Anti_Rotation_P_p/pof-00457.htm , and build the rest of the rifle around these parts. Since it's a 9mm, the stupid HBAR rule doesn't apply. I added the POF trigger group since I know that works with PCCs. This should keep it light enough without having to get a tax stamp.

Thanks for the links! I was tossing the 9mm AR idea around too. The BCG you linked isn't available but that's not too hard to find.

What I'm unsure of are the 9mm lowers. Some take Glock mags, some take other obscure mags, so I've read. Anyone know a local spot for 9mm lowers that take cheap easy to find mags?

The Colt 9mm mags are running $20 a pop for 32-rounders. A couple of local to me shops carry them. The bolt I linked to works with both Colt and Glock mags, so finding a 9mm lower for either style magazine works. IIRC Engage had some lowers in stock.

Build an AR pistol with a 12.5" barrel, use a Strike Industries Megafins G2 free floated handguard, lo-pro gas block, YHM Phantom 5C2 comp/flash hider, KAK Shockwave buffer tube, KAK Shockwabe blade. I built one to those specs and it weighs in at less than 6 pounds, with a Bushnell TRS-25.

Engage colt 9mm lowers are $200 a piece. Ouch!!!

$190 for upper/lower combo though. We're heading into 223 AR Pistol territory now.

This sounds like a pretty awesome toy. Does that shockwave blade make it a SBR?

Edit. Nvm. Looked it up. It does not.

get a normal m4 style rifle. preferably you have a pre-2013 lower or only shoot in PA. don't add rails or anything else. aimpoint micro. keep it light and reliable.
