228 years ago on December 15th, our young nation ratified that indispensable opening overture of a national charter unique in the history of the world.

A couple of centuries is the blink of an eye, historically. How soon so many choose to forget why there was such an eloquent coming-together - even among 13 states in very different stages of grappling with personal and national freedoms and duties - in orienting the nation's stated reason for being.

They explicitly chose to create a country that reigned in government power, and which held up personal liberty as the central theme of their new republic.
