easy solution. There are pants and jackets rated 3A. If I buy and wear those are they going to strip me? Functionally, those are clothes with enhancements not the other way around. next thing for NY to ban is steel and composite toe boots. After all, these dangerous boots can be considered a type of armor.

Easier solution... say "F these tyrants" and refuse to comply with this. If they come and attempt to take your property, defend it.

The exemption for reporters is outrageous. It's obvious that the only people who care about journo's physical well being are the politicians that are propped up by the Progressive media, hence the exemption.
Practically everyone would agree that body armor for Fire/EMS in high crime areas is appropriate.

    This is the proposed legislation...
    https://legislation.nysenate.gov/pdf/bills/2021/a352

this is the definition of a "body vest" from another section of law that the proposed legislation cites....

So... this technically means any child with a few books in a backpack will be a criminal. Strap anything to your body that amounts to level 1 armor, and you're guilty.

    * While committing a Violent Felony *

*SOFT Body Armor w/ at least 7 layers of protective fabric *

Laws governing Armor during Felonies , and/ or by convicted Felons are not uncommon, including in Md .

Notice this does Not address plate carriers , just soft armor .

How on earth would they know who has body armor. Good luck confiscating whats in circulation.

Just like I think about AR's, they won't come door-to-door, but if you use it in self-defense, you go from righteous victim to felon real quick. It happened here in Anne Arundel Co last year with a case involving a shotgun. Or a traffic stop because your tag light is out, and the officer has a reasonable suspicion you are wearing body armor.

Books?? You are aware that you can actually purchase bullet resistant book bags for children that were marketed after the rash of school shootings?
    https://www.bulletblocker.com/my-child39s-pa39.html

These morons really are making criminals out of children!

Here's mine. My point being that the definition of "at least seven layers of bullet-resistant material...that can stop a .38" could apply to something as mundane as a child's backpack. Books have many layers, and if they can stop a .38, that seems "bullet resistant" right?

It's no longer just while committing felonies. It's now illegal to buy or sell body armor, except for state approved professionals.

Antigun politicians in NY just made it illegal to buy a ballistic panel for your child's backpack. They do not want your children to actually be safe. They're tyrants and nobody should comply with their unconstitutional laws.

The odd thing is under their definition of "body armor", book stores and electronic device manufacturers could be charged under this law. Books that are thick enough and some computers are capable of meeting their criteria for a "body vest".

For the purposes of this section a “body vest” means a bullet-resistant soft body armor providing, as a minimum standard, the level of protection known as threat level I which shall mean at least seven layers of bullet-resistant material providing protection from three shots of one hundred fifty-eight grain lead ammunition fired from a .38 calibre handgun at a velocity of eight hundred fifty feet per second. The unlawful wearing of a body vest is a class E felony.

Progressive Pols require blood sacrifices of the innocent in order to keep being re-elected.

At least they no longer throw them into volcanoes.

These are the folks that banned the Big Gulp.

Perhaps they were all redheads in a prior life.

This single law will provide perhaps the best to-date glimpse into not only the irrational and ineffectual legislative damage wrought by “activist” Gen’l Assemblies in holes such as NY, MD, etc BUT ALSO,

    - how enforcement of laws “really work” and move holes such as NY, MD, etc and their inhabitants closer and closer to life as it is in Third World states …

First, anyone who has spent any time in courtrooms in Dem-controlled states knows laws such as this ridiculous reg will be among if not THE FIRST charges dropped, along with any firearms charges, against any actual criminals, let alone repeat violent offenders …

Second, just as the flap of a butterfly’s wing on one coast can contribute to a windstorm on another then we can expect vortexes and global cooling to occur in the wake of the winks, nods and turning of heads as literally hundreds (it not, thousands) of wealthy Ny’ers - and their offspring (heck, even attendants and drivers) go about wearing their top-o’-the-line personal body armor as if no law exists.

Because for them (“them“ being the truly criminal and truly wealthy oh, and politically connected) this law really doesn’t amount to a twit.

Meanwhile, the massive flood of Socialist-tyrant-weary taxpayers OUT OF NY continues …
