all these friggin' gun laws that are supposed to stop crime, yet when folks break them it's a slap on the wrist if anything at all. if someone is going to rob a bank, carjack or rape or murder someone, the silly tack-on gun charges certainly aren't going to stop them.
Sounds like he took the deal first and got to testify against his co-conspirator and former customers.

Regarding the OP, I think 1 year is appropriate.
The judge agrees with you, since the sentence is a year and a day.
I would actually need more information about whom the purchases were for.
