    Hi Guys,

I have a Ruger BH in .44 spl that I want to load the classic Skeeter load for (240-250 gr SWC over 7.5 gr Unique. I was thinking of using the Lasercast 240 gr SWC. Has anyone tried this?

That bullet/powder combo sounds fine. Most any hard cast bullet (over 20 for brinell hardness) will be safe
and reasonably accurate. As for the "best" in your Ruger, you will have to prove that to yourself. Your testing
may show that a 7.0 or 8.0 grain load gives best accuracy. What you quote is what Skeeter Skelton and
Elmer Keith found best in their 44 revolvers. Also, you will have to use a proper roll crimp for best result.

Doctor Bob ...please contact for any further clarification or reloading classes. remarkert@comcast.net

That load is listed as over the max. But a lot of people use it.

The Skeeter load will give over 900 fps in the Ruger 44 Special Flat Top.

I use 6.5 Unique with a 240/250 cast for practice with a 44 Special modern revolver.

I use 7.0 of Unique with any of my 240-250 cast bullets in .44 Special. I powder coat my bullets and I never seem to get a carbon ring with this load. It is what I use for double action practice for the Taurus 44 I carry in bear country. While it is not as heavy as the load I carry in the woods, I does not jar my fillings out during practice. ;)

    44 special loads

I shoot the 44 special for practice and have avoided using hard cast 240 swc to reduce the cost of each round. I have my supplier cast 215 grain rnfp bullets in soft lead. They are supposed to be for the 44 Russian but they shoot accurately out my 629 with a 6-1/2 inch barrel. I use 7.0 grains of Unique which is below max and it is comfortable and accurate. No leading in the barrel.

As far as the OP's direct question , the base line of Lasercast uses Magma Engineering molds, as do the large majority of commercial casting operations using automated equipment .

I have used bullets from same mold from a caster also of good reputation in that load . Yes, it works fine .

And for people so inclined , 215gr cast bullets from a .44 are certainly a thing .

Clippers in above post also hits upon a larger question of RNFP vs SWC ( and impliedly each of those vs other bullet designs in entirety ) .

Major data point #1 - Are these bullets potentially to be used in lever actions ?

Major data point #2 - Are these bullets potentially to be used in magnum type loads ( either velocity/ recoil per se , or the use of slow powders ) ?
