    Can you discharge an airgun in your backyard these days?

    Not in PG, not unless you have a really big back yard. 150 yards from nearest dwelling I believe.

    It is legal to hunt deer with an Air Gun if it meets the muzzle energy, you need a big bore high pressure using helium gas but it can be done. IIRC there is a thread on it somewhere on the forum and a member got it approved. I know you specified a "common air rifle" but I didn't want people to think no air rifle could be used on deer.

    And I DID specify for that reason. Yes, there are air powered rifles which are capable of killing deer and even larger game with a well placed single shot. However they are NOT the type which ANYONE with any sense at all would be suggesting as a "backyard" air rifle in a thread entitled "MD air gun backyard". At least not unless you have a VERY large backyard. Like say, the size of three football fields.
