    I always liked Mike Dillon's quad M134 mount setup.

    6,000 rounds per minute time 4 = 24,000 rounds per minute. For more than a burst. :D

    So it’s more like a bunch of grapeshot cannons stacked really close together and firing off all at once?

    Rounds are fired electronically, and can be sent in a variety of patterns. If you fire all of the rounds in a plane simultaneously, you'll get the grape-shot effect. But I recall seeing a demo where they ran smaller sets in a zipper pattern, more akin to burst volleys. I don't see why you couldn't fire rounds sequentially and simulate a traditional machine gun - though that would sorta devalue the whole "metal storm" capability.
