    Came across this document in some USMC files from 1940 at NARA.

    Another example in history where the USMC give a big middle finger to one contractor refusing to work with them.

    I think we know how this story ended.

    Since one scope manufacturer is a household name in 1903 collecting. The other.... "Noske who?"

    There isn't much mention on them of why. Maybe there's more to that story than what's recorded in the paperwork.

    Interesting...apparently they were considered state of the art for hunting scopes in the 30's and hold the distinction of being the first American made scope with internal windage and elevation adjustments. They had a 2.5X and a 4X version. I think the USMC probably was better served with the 8X target scope in the end.

    While I'd never heard of them before, a quick google search shows they are still quite collectible and highly regarded for their quality for the time.
