Don't ask how, stupid is how.

I was hoping it could be welded up and filed back into shape?
I doubt it but I had to ask.

That's a tough spot as the slot for the firing pin block is right there. You can the slot and extractor hole with weld but it would be a real pain to machine it out again. You are probably better off buying another slide.

What is it? Hammer end of pistol slide? That would be a low stress area. Pretty safe and fairly easy to reweld. Recutting is another story if you don't have appropriate tools.

If it was mine I would weld it , but would need to know what type material it was to properly match electrode to steel . IMHO others may have different opinions .

It would have to be grinded out to assure good penetration for a good repair , lots of filing or machine work after that . And that depends on how expensive that part would cost to replace would determine if it is really worth it .

It's 450$ caspian already fitted to the frame and barrel. Those are good reasons to fix it if economically feasible. Another is I already spent allthe play money I can for awhile if I cant get it fixed this project is going to be on hold for quite a while. The other reason is there is no telling if a replacement slide will have enough meat on it for a tight refit,

Does anyone have a suggestion who I might consult for the work to find out if it's a reasonable solution?

Let Welder516 see it in the flesh as it were ? Even he he doesn't take it on , I'm sure he could evaluate the feasability and likely cost .

If it's broke off clean get a small piece of Hi-force 44 with the flux in it, tin it and then feed some solder into it. You would be surprised how easy it would be you can do it yourself with a little preparation.
Any gunsmith near you would have some in his kit, if he doesn't....go somewhere else.

I'm willing to let him look at it if he's willing. I'm in Cecil Co.

I'm also going to get an email off to John Carduner tomorrow afternoon.

If you need to chose a different repair route, try Innovative Custom. They do lots of detail welding.

Looks like a Bomar rear sight cut. Flat top and serrated, too? Caspian typically runs their rails large so a replacement Caspian may give a relatively similar fit. Kimbers run decent rail size.

    As Welder said.

If it were mine I would fix it. Because I don’t charge myself.

Boothdoc also works with metal for a living.
The OP has two pros saying they would do it themselves, but it would be hobby time- not billable labor.
How much would a new slide cost? I'm guessing Welder516 and Boothdoc's hourly rate would outweigh a new slide.
    Just sayin...

From the looks of the picture , and not a exact price I would be at about 100.00 just for the welding with someone else doing the clean-up or machining .
About a 2 week turnaround , I am in Anne Arundel County .

I should add as long as it it legal for me to have your slide in my possession for 2 weeks , i am not a FFL holder so whatever is legal is what we do .

No FFL needed to work on the slide. The S/N'd receiver would require a FFL to keep overnight though.
