I'm sure if you asked Baltamorons a one question poll , most of them would answer to the effect of " Do somthing to stop / significantly reduce the killings " .

BUT, when comes to specifics , there would be marked split of very vocal opinion on sweeping drug corners , bothering the nice young men on their block, and incarcerating large numbers of mostly young minorities for long sentences.

At some point you need to either do somthing radically different ( in one direction or the other ), or accept the status quo

The citizens of Baltimore City have a double edged problem when it comes to drugs and violence. For many, that drug money is what is feeding them. That drug sale gives that family street cred. This means nothing to you or me, but for them, it's very important. But in the same breath, there are those in the city that wants to see the drug dealing and murders gone.

The biggest issue today in Baltimore City is the failure to provide for the youth. The cycle can't be broken as long as the youth see no other alternative. Yes, there are so many things that will prevent the youth from aspiring to be better.

How do you fix this issue? I have no idea. Someone brighter than me needs to come up with a logical, real, sustainable resolution.

Until that time, there will be no change in the culture of Baltimore City. The police have lost this city and it's not their fault but they are the scapegoats who always take the heat. The judges and prosecutors need to be held accountable for their actions. The revolving door at the courthouse has to stop.

I've often thought that the Feds need to be involved in EVER gun related crime. But that's another issue to be sure.

After reading the article though, you can't help but to laugh at the utter stupidity in the story. Residents complained about policing in the city after the Freddy Gray fiasco so the Justice Department investigated and found some practices to be unconstitutional. One of those practices was specifically "corner clearing".

Now that the city has stopped this practice as directed by the federal government, city residents want the police to reenact the practice because it was so effective. You can't have it both ways.

It is ironic. You give the people what they asked for, and now they are not happy. Who could have predicted this???

Granted, I don't know you personally. But I think it is safe to assume that you are just as smart if not smarter than the people running Baltimore City. If you break down your comment: "logical, real, sustainable resolution", those are 3 adjectives that haven't come out of any meaningful policy from the city in decades. It's all about, what can I promise to give out so that I can get a vote. How can we spend money from Annapolis? It has absolutely nothing to do with fixing the problems. It has everything to do with blaming the problems on the other guy.

+1 That's why we really need the term limits that the politicians won't vote for. :sad20:

It's not just Baltimore city. I have seen drug deals in the street in the middle of the day in Dundalk and called the cops. Their response, 'We know sir'. Well get off your butts and do what you're paid to do. Harry Callahan would take of it. Copper thieves all over down there. Heroin zombies laying face up in the rain in front of Holabird Bar and Liquors. Nothing is being done. It won't be long and it will be happening in Essex, Middle River, New Dundalk (aka Perry Hall), Overlea and Parkville. The whole east side of the County is going to become a cess pool.
