Public hearing is December 3rd at 6:30 PM. I'm no lawyer, but the way I read this is it would prohibit shooting on private property, and potentially also hunting in St. Mary's County :mad54:

I can't seem to attach the 3MB pdf. PM me your email address and I'll send it, or maybe someone with a faster internet connection can attach it.

I was looking this up this morning since it could effect bands playing at bars, although db ratings are measured at your property line, not inside the bar if I'm reading it correctly.

*****I've often wondered if using noise/sound regulation changes might be a back door way to keep folks from hunting, or using their own property, or even ranges for shooting activities. I live in MoCo, and our local IWLA chapter in Damascus has to have sound tests every year or so, measured at our property line with a DB meter, and someone at the ranges using a pistol, rifle, and shotgun. It's done early in the morning, and the neighborhoods in the area are informed of the testing as our normal range only allows gun fire after 10am. The range officers there often repair sound suppression walls built around the ranges (basically straw and hay bales that go into specially crafted compartments with chicken wire on both "walls". It works remarkably well and has so far kept the chapter from having to take more aggressive action to suppress gunfire sounds, especially on the rifle range which allows up to .50 BMG.

Hopefully, folks from our side show up to the Public Hearing to counter the usual pablum from folks who simply don't care for firearms regardless of the sound, or for whatever legal intended purpose (target shooting, hunting, etc..). The sound thing seems to just be another way for people who hate guns to keep folks from exercising their right to use them for legal purposes.

I would recommend posting this to a large audience, maybe the Maryland 2A forum or WC. Given this is basically elimination of recreational shooting in a rural county of MD it needs as big of an audience as possible. If successful in St Marys, other counties will surely mimic this and attempt to implement.

As others have mentioned, we need to show up in droves to the public hearing on Dec 3rd. Contact your commissioners and let them know how you feel. I know there is one commissioner that is adamantly pro 2A and one that is pretty much a closet gun control supporter (maybe not even so much in the closet about it anymore). The other three I have not personally interacted with regarding 2A.

Also, beyond the gun groups, this will affect much larger groups as well such as the recreational ATV/motorsports folks and boating community and those groups could be brought into the discussion.

Sounds levels listed as violations are any noise on residential property in daytime above 65 db. That includes A LOT. This is really a ridiculous ordinance proposal in so many ways and can be factually attacked as such just based on outlining the numerous things that exceed those db levels at distance.

I would encourage everyone to dig a little and find out specifically which commissioner spearheaded this and out him to make sure come election time he isn't re-elected.

Oh, and maybe a thread title change to make a larger impact - such as - "Proposed ordinance to ban shooting in St Mays County"

You will probably get the horse people who have shut down Sunday hunting and are behind other anti shooting bills. You probably should post signs at all the hunter hangouts i.e. bait shops, gas stations, fast food, fair grounds etc. to try and get the largest amount of people that you can.

    Feel free to out them.

John is/was the strongest 2A on the board. The other 4 will do/say whatever necessary to appease the crowd.

yep . Maybe a Tri County PP event

I'll get flamed hard for saying this but SLSC needs to drop its apolitical stance and where appropriate make its voice heard and/or openly motivate members to get involved. We keep backing farther and farther into the corner...

Yeah, John O'Connor is pro 2A for sure. I met him before he was a commissioner through a mutual deputy friend. Good guy.

Mike Hewitt is the one I had a short but very negative interaction with regarding 2A. I had always taken my vehicles to his auto repair shop back when that's what he did. I needed some work done on my truck so when I was there, and he had mentioned he was going to run for commissioner I asked him what his stance was on gun control vs gun rights. His response was... He fully supports the second amendment and people can have guns to hunt but no one needs ar15s and those assault rifles.

I haven't met the other three commissioners or looked into their stances on 2A, but probably will before the public hearing. If they are just going to go with the crowd mentality of who is in the room, then we can use that to our advantage. That strategy and tactic worked pretty well back when the county wanted to rezone Sanners Lake range.
