First person charged with this in DE.

    First in the country?

A Dover man was arrested for having a bump stock attached to his firearm inside of his home.

Detectives from the Drugs, Vice, and Organized Crime Unit obtained information that Joseph Carter (45) was in possession of a rifle with a bump stock at a residence in the 400 Block of New Castle Ave.

Investigators say a records check showed that Carter was wanted on several court capias’ as well as by the Dover Police Department and Office of Animal Welfare.

Carter was arrested as he left his residence on Mon, Feb. 18. A subsequent search of the home led to the discovery of an AR 15 with a bump stock attachment.

As a result, Carter was committed to SCI in default of $20,500 bond on the following charges:
-Possession of a Firearm by Person Prohibited
-Possession of a Destructive Weapon (Bump Stock)
    -Local Fugitive

If he had other run-ins with the law , he was no law abiding citizen .

I don't like our government but I don't need his funk to rub off on us or me .

We can't have people possessing destructive weapons!

Only the friendly, non-destructive, cute-and-fuzzy bunny weapons!

Don't you think that if it was one of us that other "things" would be found to smear us and make us look bad in the publics eye? You know, porn or drugs or something? I'm not saying that this guy isn't really a dirt bag, but the way things are going I wouldn't be surprised if some stuff was made up to punish a gun owner and make the State look good in the publics eyes.

    My thinking as well. Thanks.

Doesn't appear to be a "add on charge". At least based on the reporting, it says they went there because they "obtained information" on the bumpstock. Investigators also did a records check and found out the other information, but the main reason for them being there was the bumpstock. One of the "charges" they list for him is "Local Fugitive". What exactly is that? For failing to appear for speeding tickets or dealing meth? Like others have said, I wouldn't be surprised one bit if they scrounged to find things to make sure the bumpstock wasn't the only thing on this guy.

And now, since they have one arrest under their belt, they can go after others that don't have additional things.

But hey...go ahead and cheer this on.. As far as those cheering this and supporting it, that is like cheering for and supporting the arrest of someone in MD for transferring a 30 round mag just because they had a warrant for other unknown charges. The bumpstock law is bullsh*t. Don't cheer on bullsh*t laws. Sickening how splintered the East Coast 2A crowd is.

And there will be a lot more felons in MD soon when the unconstitutional laws pass. You going to say the same thing then too?

No one really knows what got the ball rolling here. I think there is some creative, agenda-driven writing going on.

Either way, the guy was prohibited. It makes for juicy copy if the bumpstock precipitated the whole arrest. For them, it validates their fact that this criminal was stopped before the second bumpstock massacre took place.

Check out the other versions of the story.

The thread title is about as misleading as the story. Eventually you get to the meat of the story. Dude got busted for other stuff. Pile on charge is pretty much it.
