Mizeur and Gansler debated last night, and here is some (not surprising) news:

… Mizeur broke new policy ground by calling for universal background checks for the purchase of all firearms – shotguns and rifles as well as handguns. In the wake of the mall shooting by a 19-year-old who legally purchased a shotgun, she also urged that Maryland set a minimum age of 21 to buy long guns -- the current standard for handguns. ...

Gansler, to his credit :sad20: , said he would have to "review" any "universal background check" law before deciding whether to support it.

This is just sword rattling by these candidates but will not have the support to go anywhere.

Unfortunately, emotionally driven illogical ideas tend to become bad laws in this state. Show up in Annapolis on 2A Tuesday and let the critters see there is no support for this lunacy.

Sure, let's tell adults that they are not able to exercise a fundamental Right until 3 years after they reach the age of majority. That will work....

Have to agree with that one. The liberals in this state have pushed some crap into law before...they'll do it again.

So, we have to fix this broken system where this loony tune legally bought a shotgun from a store to one where he was background checked to one where he presumably would still have been able to buy a shotgun the same way, does that about cover it? Seems about the right logic for Maryland.

Also, I'm glad the evil party is trying to piss off under 21 voters.

Let them continue to spout off about shotguns and rifles, it will finally bring the hunters and sportsmen into the fight. And that's a good thing because then it WILL affect them.

Ganslers running mate Jolene Ivey was asked "Do you believe Maryland's gun control laws are too strict, not strict enough or just right? Her answer: "Not strict enough. Let's outlaw handguns and semi-automatic weapons, retaining access to reasonable hunting weapons like single shot rifles and shotguns."

All of these Liberal candidates have the same ideas. It's just how loud they'll be about it while campaigning.

As far as minimum age goes. If you are old enough to fight for and die for your country, why would you not be able to exercise your 2nd amendment rights.

Hate to sound like a libtard here so don't confuse me with libtardness. The current minimum drinking age is 21 in MD. Back in the day (about 1974 or 75), the drinking age in this state was reduced to 18 for beer 'n wine, then raised incrementally back to 21 over a three year period. Yeah, it COULD happen with gun purchases too.
