Well my federal return is going to be bigger than I thought, so I'm going to bite the bullet and get me a service grade M1 from the CMP. I've got all the paperwork printed and somewhat filled out. I've got my GCA membership and C&R for the requirements. Now I need to get the page "2A" notarized. I've never needed anything notarized before, where can I go to do this and what's it going to cost? Also, I'm aware it'll take a few months for the order to go through. I've seen people post about keeping tabs on the order's status, how do you check that?

You are going to be sooo happy when Big Brown Truck of Happiness arrives with your Garand! While you're at it, make sure to order one of the original bayonets to go with it. They are selling out and you can't beat the prices that CMP sells them for. Also, get at least 1 can of the Greek .30-06.

Cool, I'll see if Spank Of America will do the same!

They will usually do it at no charge for account holders. If the person who is a notary is off, they will usually know which branch to send you to.

I used a snow day to get something notorized. My local BoA branch (Columbia) didn't have a notary on duty, but they sent me to Jessup who did.

Don't go to a teller. Get on the line (you may need to sign the book) for someone who has a desk.

If they ask what you need notorized, just tell them it's an affidavit. They don't need to know it's for buying guns.

+1 for ups store. If your going to ups or fedex it anyway then this may be the route to go. I used them for my Florida permit or my collectors. I can't remember which one.

You are going to be sooo happy when Big Brown Truck of Happiness arrives with your Garand! ...

Actually, it's the BWToH that delivers your Garand. The CMP has a special deal negotiated with FedEx for discount shipping.

More and more banks are refusing to notarize any documents they themselves have not generated. If your bank won't do it, just take it to a UPS store or the Copy Post or one of those places. They'll do it for maybe $2. It's very simple.

When the CMP gets your order, it goes in a bin with all other orders received that day. A different bin every day. Depending on how busy they are, they may get to that bin in a week or a month or more. Only then do they actually open the envelope and enter your order into the system.

At this point, they will send you an e-mail, saying something like, "We have received your order and we'll fill it sooner or later. There is no reason for you to contact us blah, blah, blah... Your order number is blah. Your permanent customer number is blah-blah. You password for the e-store is blah-blah-blah..."

This is the much anticipated Don't Bug Us e-mail, commonly called the DBU. Receiving your first DBU is a Rite of Passage, sort of like losing your virginity, or at least copping your first feel. Life will never be the same.

Now you must begin to log into the e-store two or three times a day to check your order status.

Eventually your order status changes from "Open" to "Processing" (if I recall correctly), and about that time they charge your credit card. By this time you should be checking in hourly. Within a day or two, your order status changes to "Shipped", and you get a tracking number. Arrange to take the day off work, so you can look out the window every 15 minutes, watching for the BWToH.

Sometimes they go very quickly, like a couple weeks. More often it's a couple months. How long did it take you to lose your virginity? I thought so. So don't complain.

garand collectors association. One of the clubs, cheapest one out there next to the M1cc. both do good work.

If you belong to a local gun club you may already be affiliated.

page 2a is their version of the nics form

    Look over the eligibility requirements:

    http://www.thecmp.org/eligibility.htm

Delta is a range. The club requirement is for an organization. There is a long list here: http://clubs.odcmp.com/cgi-bin/clubSearch.cgi

About the easiest way to qualify is by joining the Garand Collectors Association, or GCA.
    http://www.thegca.org/membership

You also need to meet the Marksmanship or other Firearms Related Activity qualification. Check the list for yourself. It's easier than many people seem to think. You do not have to shoot in a formal, organized competition. You do not have to have an NRA Classification. It is very, very easy to meet this, and all the CMP qualifications.,

I find an easy way to make sense of the process is to go over the checklist, page 4 of the order form:
