Can anyone locally properly taper-pin a sight block to a AR barrel? Any idea how much this generally costs?

Just a recommendation, but match shooters drill & tap the 4 pin holes for 10-32 allen head cap screws, then mill flats on the barrel. This allows the front sight to be adjusted for windage, keeping your mechanical and no-wind zeros in the same spot.

Scotts Gunsmithing can but he isn't taking in any work now.

The price depends on wether you FSB and Barrel are virgin (No previous holes). If they are virgin your likely looking at about $75-100, if the barrel is drilled it can approach $200 to plug the old work and recut.

ADCO is really good for this and fast.

I see on Adco's site they do this for $90 +$15 for tapered pins vs. straight pins. Add shipping into that, and this is going to be more expensive than I had hoped...

If its a custom setup its worth it, if its a run of the mill AR barrel then it probably will be more expensive than one already done.

Its not easy work (Doing it right anyway that is)

Set Screws will not secure the sight for serious or defensive use though, so if you plan on doing anything besides paper punching get it pinned or sell the components and buy one already done.

We (Engage) do them on virgin barrels/FSBs for $90 labor if you supply the parts. Parts are also available for purchase if you don't have them, and turn-around is typically less than a week. That's Drill and ream for taper pins.

Yeah, I was thinking hard about that, but knowing me I'd never be able to look at it without thinking "That sight block might be coming loose..." :lol2:
