My wife and I was at the Gettysburg Gunshow and was making a purchase when I thought I saw a fat old fart with a white beard and a yellow hat taking a picture of us with his phone. I wasn't sure if that is what he was doing but it creeped me out.

Every time I past this old schnit I stared him down just to make sure he knew I was watching him. Well just before we left apparently someone had confronted him about it because I heard him say something to the effect of... "your telling me that people can walk around here with loaded guns but I'm not allowed to walk around with a camera" ???

So I guess this goober was taking our picture as I thought, unfortunately I didn't have the presence of mind to take a picture of his sorry face with my phone!!!

(Other than that I liked this show better than the one down in Frederick by a large margin.)

If your picture shows up on some blog or Facebook, sue him for the rights to your image AND violation of your privacy.

Obviously some anti-idiot that believes in the "gun show loophole", global warming, and that Barry was born in the USA.

He was there to photograph all the Mexican drug lords buying up truckloads of howitzers, RPGs, and machine guns.

For months to come he'll be bragging to all his anti buddies about his brave investigation (at great personnal risk to himself).

Scene at Wine and Cheese Tasting,

Creepy Old Fart: (Casually) "I've been conducting an investgation into illegal gun-running and local sales of Weapons of Mass Destruction. Recently I went undercover at a Gunshow."

Hot Chick: "OOOhhh!! That must have been scary!!!!!

Creepy Old Fart, "Well, there were definately some tense moments, let me tell you. I honestly thought those psycho gun nuts might attack me at one point."

Hot Chick: "OOOOhhhh!!!!! I would have been soooo scared!!! What did you do???"

Creepy Old Fart: "I just had to stand my ground, stare them down. You can't show fear. They can sense fear, you know."

Hot Chick : "OOOhhh!!! I could never do that!! I could never go to a gun show!!! I'd be soooo scared!!!!"

There is no expectation of privacy in a public space.

There is no law restricting a person from taking photographs of you in a public space.

Image copyright, including usage rights, belongs solely to the person who took the photo, not to the subject(s). Your suit would be considered frivolous, unless perhaps you were able to prove tangible damages as a result of something like slander or libel resulting from use of the image.

Did you try saying to him "I'm not sure if you are, but I would appreciate it if you would please not take my photograph."

you should have grabbed his phone, threw it to the ground and stepped on it.

You should have waited until you were behind him, looked over his shoulder, and yelled "Hey! He's got kiddie porn on his cell phone!!!"

I never mentioned that he didn't have the right to take pictures of a public place, that's why in hindsight I should have taken pictures of him.

Turning the tables on him and take his picture would have pized off that @hole more then any cleaver retort. ;)

I'm betting he's from the Frederick News Post, or some other rinky dink drying up left leaning newspaper, trying to dig up a "story" in PA because he would be found out at the Frederick Gun Show. :D

Do some gun shows have a no photos policy? I once encountered a dealer who had a gun I had never seen, and I asked if I could take a picture. Answer was not just No, but put in a tone that indicate the dealer was extremely offended I would think that was at all appropriate.

You know, that's kinda why I asked.

Regarding creepy old guy, any chance he was taking photos of your wife, not you?

A lot of gunshows have a no photos policy. Since a promoter rents the space and charges admission it is not considered a public place and he gets to set his own rules.

I would've "accidentally" bumped into him hard enough to make his phone fall... the crush it beneath my size 11.

I don't think there's an expectation of privacy at a public event, but the show organizers can establish rules... ie: "no photography" that everyone must adhere to upon entry. By definition, this would not be a "public event" if one pays admission and agrees to the organizers rules.
