Time to renew my Utah permit online. What are you all doing for providing a picture? I don't want to pay CVS / Wallgreens for a digital passport quality photo. Has anyone used an iPhone pic or a passport style photo app?

I went out on my porch since my house is light green and used my kindle. The website for the permit cropped it to size.

I don't think it really matters much. When I renewed my Utah CCW, I sent in passport photos. When I got the permit, the picture was so light and washed out that you can barely tell what I look like.

Went to CVS and got 2 "passport like" photos. Same thing just not as high quality. Cost me $1.40. Got my license 4 weeks later.

I had The Boy take a photo of me at the top of the stairs (the only place we could find a decent neutral background without a light switch or other cruft.) Did some preliminary cropping and scaling on the computer using GIMP. When I uploaded it, their web app let me fuss with the photo some more. Was disturbingly easy ... and I probably could have substituted Keanu Reeves' photo for mine. Whoa!

Utah may not care what it looks like but other state police do! Friend and I were stopped and were carrying. We were both carrying and friend pulled out his Utah. Cop looked at it and said: "Son, I'm gonna give you a break, but that permit ain't worth shit."

Why did he say that? Was he criticizing the picture quality, or did he personally disapprove of Utah non resident permits?

I also used a cell phone picture for my Utah renewal. Set the phone on a tripod and used the self timer. I probably took two dozen photos before settling on one.

My original Utah permit was submitted with a real photo, that looked decent. The permit photo looked like crap.

My renewal was with a cell phone selfie, and the permit actually looks better than the one from a real photo.

    They must have crappy scanners.
