FNG here. Mil guy unfortunately stationed in MD, and just trying to make the most of it while I'm stuck here. Open to suggestions on places to shoot that aren't On Target, since I can't bring any of my rifles there.

You can go Assoc. Gun Clubs 0f Balto. website. Mariottsville range Rt. 70 W. You have join one of the 28 clubs that use the range. Well worth it. I've been a long time member. They may have a military discount to. Thanks for your service for our country.

I second the Associates Gun Club option. My friend worked on the other side of Meade and he and I would often go up to AGC in the early evening or weekends.

The only wrinkle is their mandatory safety briefing is held on a monthly basis (normally a Sunday morning). Maybe they waive for active duty (my friend was Naval Reserve).

You can shoot pistol caliber rifles there, but 25 yards is their maximum distance for targets. I’ve taken my .30 caliber M-1 carbine there several times, as well as my 9mm and, of course, .22 rifles.

Thanks for the input. I had actually looked at them (briefly) but was hoping to avoid having to join any clubs, as I'm not sure how long I'm going to be here. I appreciate the suggestion all the same. Might end up biting the bullet and joining up anyway if all else fails.

Yeah, but I can't bring my AR or my 308, so they're really of no use to me. Not worth going to the range if it's just to bring my pistol out.

Also at Ft Meade here. I used to take the hike to La Plata to shoot my rifles at Myrtle Grove. I've since become a member at Berwyn Rod & Gun. They have great facilities and are only 20 minutes away.

Welcome to Maryland... Just make the best of it while you're here is all I can really offer. DC, while generally a craphole, does have lots of touristic opportunities if you enjoy history, museums, and monuments.

Isn’t there a 400 yard range on base?

Yes. But my understanding is that its only shooting required for quals, probably local LE (so not most Ft Meaders...) and for a club that shoots some Sundays and I think I hear them on some Saturdays.

There are not one , but two Clubs on Base . BUT their access times are limited, and they have to arrive and leave as a group .

Berwyn is a fine Club . But if the time and $ is an issue at AGC , BRGC will give a heart attack .

On that theme , reconsider joining AGC . There are several low cost constituent Clubs ( if nothing else , Md State Rifle & Pistol Assn is affiliated , and they are worthwhile to spend the reasonable annual dues , just to support the good work they do for 2A anyways .)

But if you absolutely positively are allergic to Clubs , you can drive further to Hap Baker .
