I won an auction today for a 1960 Marlin lever action, this is being bought using money obtained from solar renewable energy credits. I have solar panels on my roof and I earn SREC's for each megawatt of energy produced. I got a check for $600 the other day from the sun's energy. I just got my first Sun of a gun .......there will be more!:lol2:

It's my early Christmas present, I called the seller this morning to make sure he would ship to a C$R holder, initially he refused- then called me with 30 minutes left in the auction and no bidders.

He reconsidered after researching the serial number/age of manufacture, so there's no transfer fees involved....I love my c&r!

Good on you! Going solar in my house is on the wish list. So far, I've just got some lights in a barn.

so...how much did the solar panels cost you?:innocent0

The whole job was about $27k, tax credits were around $9k - several years ago.

I save over $125/ mo. On electricity and get about 6 srec's/ yr @ $110-$125 each. So the return is about $2k/ year.

About 10 years to pay for themselves and a 25 year lifespan........:party29:

The Howard County library branch near my office has solar panels on the roof that cost taxpayers $50,000 (this was in 2006 or 2007 I think). They have a computer hooked up to them so you know how much energy they produce. They generate about $60 worth of power a month. Basically the building will fall down before the solar panels ever generate enough power to pay for themselves. So glad Ken Ulman is not the County Executive anymore.

    PICS!

I forgot where it was but over in DE, I saw a public building with solar panels facing NORTH.
I think Joe Biden installed them.

Looks pretty nice from the one picture. I love the Marlin 336, especially the older ones. I refuse to buy one with the crappy cross bolt safety or any of the "Remlins" being made today though

So taxpayers purchased you a gun? :D

The SREC's are sold like stock shares to companies like Constellation Energy, who must utilize a percentage of their generated power from renewable sources like solar or wind generated. As more people provide power back the shares sell for less and less, eventually I expect the SREC's to be valued at $25-$50, but for now they sell for >$100.

My 4 kilowatt system generates over 6 megawatt hours each year, giving me 6-SREC's to sell using a broker who tries to get as much as possible because he gets a cut of the sale.
