Reaction rod is a good idea. Supports the barrel so you don't snap off the index pin when applying torque. You can use a BCG as well if you don't have the reaction rod

I snapped an indexing pin using a reaction rod. Different application though :D

My close and personal sika deer build. Blackhole Weaponry 12.5 inch barreled 6x45. Aero upper and lower SBA3 brace. Shot it last week with red dot and decided to use 3x burris. Next week gonna chrono it next to my 20 inch just for laughs.

I think you have that completely backwards. You are more likely to snap the indexing pin using the reaction rod.

The reaction rod holds the barrel extension in place, the receiver wants to spin but the indexing pin won't allow it.

    Dude....lol

Were you at 80+ ft/lb of torque? Haha

Someone I know did that, didn't start low and work up, just skipped straight to 80, and snapped that pin immediately.

I was removing a barrel nut from a PSA upper

I picked up a new pin from Apex, drilled out the old pin and was back in business.

I recently bought 2 used 16" barrels on Gunbroker-both in good shape but had the index pins sheared off...I had never fixed one before, but found it wasn't bad at all,... drilled em out and tapped new ones in. Good to know it is fixable.

That is sweet. Would it run well with a suppressor?

Yes, it did run well suppressed. The short barrel kept the bullets from breaking the sound barrier. ( 147 grain subs)

But I prefer it to be short and compact. Took the can off and replaced it with a mini compensator.

With the brace collapsed. It’s only 19.6” long.

Are VFGs legal on rifles? I thought they were but my buddy swears to me they arnt. I scrolled through the last 10 pages of pics and there are only like 2 guns with vfgs. Thanks.

VFGs are legal on any rifle with a barrel of 16” or longer. They are also legal on any registered SBR and any other firearm that has an overall length of 26”.

An AR pistol with an overall length of over 26” is no longer classified as a pistol . It is now just a “ firearm “ by classification. Therefore a vertical fore grip can be used without turning it into an “ AOW”( NFA- any other weapon)

There should be a batfe letter floating around the net that clarifies that.
