    Anyone in SoMd who can turn drums and arc the shoes to match ? Little drums (~9") for a smaller FWD car.

    Please do not respond unless you have something useful to say.

    "just buy new brake drums" Hence the problem, there all out of round Chinese garbage no matter who/what/where you buy then from. The shoes are not much better.

    If you are using the old shoes, remove any glazing from them before installation by using some sandpaper to expose fresh brake material.

    Do not worry about the arc of the shoe. The difference is gone after the first few regular uses of the brakes. Before taking it on the road, test the brakes a few times while going forward. You will find that they seat rather quickly without any special attention. The shoes will always wear before the drum. Always be careful after working on your brakes. The first drive should be short and not in a lot of traffic but long enough to fully test the brakes.

    Hope you found this useful. It is the way my grandfather taught me to handle drum brakes. Never had a problem with this method and I have had a lot of cars with drum brakes.

    Here's something useful, if you do the job yourself make sure the leading shoe is the smaller of the two.
    Also, make sure the emergency brake cable is operating correctly and the shoes have been adjusted correctly.
    One last thing, if there is a cast iron master cylinder involved and you bleed the brakes, don't allow the pedal to be completely compressed when bleeding the lines.
    The seals may travel into uncharted territory with the additional travel of the break pedal damaging them.
