I once had a call from the ATF to assist in conducting a trace. Other than that, nope.

Did the ATF Agent say C&R firearms were covered under ITAR and that selling them to Canadians, who would then sell them to ISIS fightters, is against the law?...

Did you get the agent's name and phone number and call them back? If not, could have been an anti-2A crank looking for somebody to report, no matter if what you're doing is perfectly legal.

Just to remind FFL-03 (C&R) folks. The ATF can call to setup an appointment to review your bound book and at their request your C&R firearms in this log book. The interview can be at your home or the nearest ATF field office at a time you both agree to. You do not and should not give out any information to a cold caller on your telephone. There is no way for you to know if the other person on the line is an ATF agent without verifying their identity in person.

    Be safe out there.

One more thing. I don’t use my real first name in the ad ( which i have run on and off for 7 years) or provide my last name or anything but my cell. She said she was aware i had an 03. She said nothing wrong with the ad, had a complaint and was calling to remind can’t deal with an 03. S t r a n g e.

Very strange. SOP is for ATF to interact FTF.

If she calls again to arrange a FTF visit, politely remind her in person that buying as many as you can afford to collect at no point constitutes being an FFL dealer. FFL dealers are primarily in the business of selling.

As an 01 and 03 FFL holder, I never had an inspection and only had one trace request. From talking to people around the country over the years, it appears that new agents are the ones who usually try to inspect 03 collectors because they are not familiar with the regulations.

I suggest that any 03 FFL holder who gets a request for an audit, offer to take your collection and books down to their office in Baltimore. Don't forget to ask them where their security detail will pick up your vehicle to escort you in to the city. :innocent0

This is plausible. If they have a complaint they probably feel the need to at least contact you. A phone call is about the least invasive thing they could do and to me shows they aren't particularly worried about you. I think if they were concerned you'd be getting audited at a minimum. Does make one wonder who is filing the complaint though. Or maybe someone in the .gov may have seen the ad and just wanted to make sure no one was buying guns to resell illegally to gangs or baddies overseas, etc. Remember when gun people say "old military rifles" we tend to think of bolt actions and percussion rifles. The non gun person may instead be thinking of old AK's and AR's.

Just our of curiosity, where did you run your ad? On-line? Print magazine?

Free circulation community paper. Good crossword puzzle. As i wrote, on and off for years. Every once in a while something good...an 18th cen blunderbus. An 1809 prussian.

Yes. I wondered who might complain and why. Gun store? Anti gun crowd? She was very nice. Polite. Articulate. Detached. I explained i had a good understanding of gun laws.
