The only way to access gas rod assembly is to remove it from the stock. I keep reading it shouldn't be done "often". It is a National Match but I can't see anything that would be glass bedding. I'm thinking that "too often" would be like timing yourself blindfolded then again to see if you improve. It is fun to shoot.

Shoot until accuracy tapers off, or malfunction occurs.

After every range trip - too often.

I've had my M1ANM since 1985, I have never broken it apart. I clean it best I can and have taken it hunting neumerous times. They said to remove it a small dowel and a smack it with a hammer can loosen it. I think that's too much stress for the Fiberglass bedding. I would leave it alone. The bedding is slightly lighter color than the stock. There is absolutely no movement between the action and stock in mine.

I read the same thing with my standard M1a. Pulling the action out compresses the wood and it eventually loosens up to where you need to rebed the action. Run a bore snake through the barrel every once in a while should be good enough. The gas piston, so I've read, is self regulating.
