Attic find, no markings. What is it?

    So don't know what this is, friend found in family's attic, no markings anywhere to be found, says cylinder doesn't want to line up properly.

    Can anyone identify?

    Actually I think from the triple-knurled cylinder axis pin and the side screw location it is some kind of Iver Johnson.

    Looks like an H&R Safety Hammer, but they tend to be marked. The top strap should be marked "Safety Hammer Double Action" and there are usually markings on the hammer or barrel.

    It looks like the hammer might be marked from the picture.

    Yup H & R. I have two that belonged to my grandmother and great aunt. They were usually 32 cal but some did come in 38 cal. One says American Bull Dog on the barrel, the other says The American Double Action on the top of the frame.
