Personally, I enjoy the civility of discussions and which is not very common in the inter-webs. This is a unique online community. Whatever the moderators are doing seems to be working!

Given what one has to do to get a permaban around here, I'm surprised that anyone who finds themselves on that list would be considered for reinstatement, even with the terms laid out in the OP. I'm sure that otherwise good people find themselves on that list, but all of them acted an ass several times to get permabanned, right? Maybe a lengthy timeout was good for them, but maybe not. Either way, not my house and certainly not my rules. Just glad to be here.
That said, I applaud the thought behind the gesture. Tis the season, and all.
