Anyone launch out of the Smithsonian Research facility in South AA Cnty? I have been there before but have never launched and am asking if there are any issues with the ramp at different tides or any other launching questions.

    TIA

The place on the Rhode River? I had no idea there was a legal launch there. I thought Carrs Wharf was the only option for that area.

Nope, you can get directions from the guard at the gate. The launch is a concrete boat ramp but you have to park a couple of hundred yards away after you drop your stuff off. I saw it at high tide so I don't know if it has issues at low tide levels.

Years ago,a friend had permission to hunt private property adjoining Smithsonian property.I was close to the line.At dusk,I shot at a small doe with a scoped shotgun..It was one of those shots that you know instantly that it was a "good" shot.No way to miss.40 yrds out and a steady rest.It is super thick there and the doe disappeared quickly.

We searched and searched for blood to no avail.I thought I found blood at one time, saying it out loud...but it was just a red leaf.Since the other side of the creek(the property line) was where the doe ran,and since it was dark(nobody would see us) and since the road wasnt too far away(easier to return to the truck) we decided to take the easier way out.

We got about 50 yrds then there were BRIGHT flashlights to our faces with LOUD demands to drop our weapons. There was 3 of them on us like flies on spit.Questions like Why are you hunting on Federal property?....where is the deer you shot?...Where were you standing when you shot?....where is the spot where you found blood?
I guess they heard when I said I thought I found some.

They checked our "weapons" which we had already unloaded.Tensions were very high with them saying the fines would start around $500.

After awhile, with both of us being polite and giving the the same answers (the truth) over and over, they calmed down and realized we just made a mistake.Since we both had written permission for the private property, our licenses, orange vests and hats, legal guns and were telling the truth, they gave us a warning for trespassing on Federal property.
They told us we should have gone to the gate and got an escort to look for the deer and there was going to be a lottery hunt on the property the next day,and if someone found the deer I shot at,they would contact me.
