    Good Day All,

Wanted to get answer to a question that even some local police are unsure of. IF you are lucky enough to get the holy Maryland CCW permit, I understand that state buildings, court houses, MVA and state parks are off limits. What are some of the other gotcha's that we might not be aware of, like the State fairgrounds is that a go or no go area.

Here is my small list of no-go places

    State Parks
    National Forests
Public schools (K-12?? what about colleges or Private schools?)
Demonstration at a public place or in vehicle within 1000 feet of a demonstration.
While under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Any place where the carrying of firearms is prohibited by Federal Law. I know rest areas have been made a no go but not sure about the others.

Again not using this as the law just input.

    Thanks in Advance.

MD casinos post signs stating no weapons allowed. Believe there was a prior thread that stated casinos did not allow off duty officers to conceal carry.

    Post Offices, and their grounds.

Right. Not good enough to park in the USPS lot, disarm to the glove box, and run in to drop off a package.

Happily, the post office I use is right next to a commercial lot serving a strip mall, so I can totally follow the rules. Even though the post office is exactly one of those places I'd feel better carrying, second only to that unmanned self-serve gas station in Pierre, SD. I've never had my spidey sense tingle like it did there in the middle of the night (Pro Tip: midnight gas stop in SUV with out of state tags during opening week of pheasant season means YOU and the shotguns you're hauling are the ones being hunted when you're on the wrong side of the tracks there).

But yeah ... even if all I'm doing is checking the business PO box, never ever in the USPS. A slip and fall on their floor or who knows what and your piece is seen - what a dumb reason to be a federal felon.

^ This. I don't agree with the "what they don't know won't hurt them" mindset, especially when it comes with such heavy penalties. A simple medical emergency can turn a normal day into a very bad one. It's not worth the risk.

I have to check my PO Box at least once a week. Gun goes into a lockbox in the Jeep when I do. My PO is also in a strip mall, so parking isn't an issue.

Not a lawyer. But that says you may not carry prohibited items with the intent to harm somebody.

    Ymmv

    Nobody

I’m not a lawyer either so it comes down to what the semi colon means in the middle of the long run on sentence. Any lawyers in the bunch here that can give us a ruling on Rule 5 on page 5?

Any private property that has a sign at the front door "No Weapons" or "No Firearms" but in this state you don't see many of them. The bank I use for business has one on the front door I told the manager not a problem but I will be moving my accounts to a armed business customer friendly bank instead. He said don't worry it's OK as most of the business customers are armed. He said the sign came from corporate with branches in many states that have CCW as of everyday life not like Maryland. The signs do not have the force of law in MD. If they see your blaster they can ask you to leave or take it off the property but at that point you have not committed a crime.

Greenbelt Park ( among others ) is a Nat'l PARK , ie administered by US Dept of Interior . Nat'l Forrests, such as the nearby Geo Washington Nat'l Forrest aka GWNF , is administered by USDA . ( Interesting backstory why we don't in Md , but that's another topic ).
