Wouldn't be surprised if Ben & Jerry's promised support to politicians there if they passed the measure.

    http://www.guns.com/2018/03/28/vermont-house-approves-age-and-magazine-restrictions-bump-stock-ban/

    S. 55 is supported by their Republican Governor. It would limit magazine capacity to 10 for rifles and 15 for handguns, raise the gun-buying age to 21, and ban bump stocks.

It goes without saying, but VT has virtually no crime...

It also includes a universal background checks requirement.

Their Senate also passed their own ERPO bill 30-0, it's in their House now.

The Republicans have abandoned gun owners. Utterly spineless.

As suggested in the Utah thread on gun control legislation (that failed, including a red flag type bill), maybe there is behind the scenes money driving some of this.

I'm really surprised about the universal ground checks having support in less populous states (with low crime).

I tend to think that support comes from the politicians, not those they claim to represent. What good is a bandwagon if no one jumps on it? Besides, there's $$$ to be had if you dance to the piper's tune.

However, Vermont has been drawing in a number of city folks from Mass and NY. Reminiscent of what's going down in NoVA

In the case of Vermont it has become infested with granola liberals from all over the country, as well as transplants and retirees from New York and Massholechussets. In fact the arrogant old fart leading the push for these bills in their Senate is a Masshole transplant.

I apologize in advance for any offense my comparisons may cause infestations, or farts.

    Vermont elected a socialist Senator.

What is surprising is that they are just now getting around to this.

As for raising the age for rifles and the Republican supporting it, Thanks Trump.

The amazing thing is that there is absolutely no evidence that larger magazines make any shooting more deadly. Zero. The fact is, the fantasy liberals have about rushing the shooter while he's reloading is just that, a fantasy. Unless, with all the adrenaline pumping, you're going to be counting shots ("Oh, he just fired his 11th shot, that means I can tackle him now"), which we all know is nonsense, a shooter could just as easily step a few feet away and reload.

Reading through the bills, the Senate version is universal background checks and prohibition of sales to minors. The house amended it to add prohibition of high capacity magazines.

The prohibition of possession of high capacity magazines has the same problem as the CA law which was struck down, it appears to be an unconstitutional taking because there is no grandfather clause.

Overall I would say that the Democrat base hates law enforcement, but the Dems keep making law enforcement a protected class of citizens. Then they complain about law enforcement rights abuses. Most of these gun prohibition laws grew out of Terry v Ohio to provide a basis to stop people. The Dem base hates stop and frisk. Maybe they should stop voting for reasons to stop and frisk people.

This cannot go on forever, and what cannot go on forever eventually stops.

It always sounds good because no one points out that now to sell your gun privately an extra 25 dollars or more has to be spent simply to have an FFL as a middleman for the transaction.

Our side needs to explain this and put up a bill allowing private sellers to be able to access NICS and not have to hold paperwork for years like a dealer would.

We did that, and the left wouldn't agree to it, because their goals are a) politicizing the issue and b) inconveniencing and burdening law abiding people. Opening the NICS up to private sellers wouldn't accomplish either.

this goes to show that gun grabbing is most definitely not about reducing crime in any way shape or form. the grabbers are trying to get a low crime state to have laws that match their vision so they can claim its cuz of the laws... also the VT state has the right to bear arms in the state constitution in addition to 2A violations.

if anything, if this passes and stays, watch violent crime increase.

and yes... it is the MASSHOLES and new yorkers and new jersey people... so many entitled, well heeled elitists move there and raise there kids up there... embracing the extreme leftist propaganda.

Family has a place up in far NE VT. Head up 91 all the way to Newport and then head East towards Island Pond. On a lake called Echo Lake in East Charleston. Mostly farmers and they have their kids using guns all the time. They are not real conservative up there, more like Libertarian. Weird. They hate the New Yorkers, ****ecticutt Aholes, Massholes, you name it. They come up and try to make the natives live by their rules. No When in Rome do as the Romans do.
